Too many of you guys are taking Duce seriously on this.

Coopman took a lot out of Ali? The Belgium waffle was one of Ali's easiest title fights of the 60s or 70s. Stories abound that the Lion of Flanders was actually drinking between rounds just to give him courage to go out for the next stanza. Most regarded the bout as nothing more than a soft gym workout for Ali. A "neat and tidy exhibition of boxing" was how it was described by pundits.

You actually think that Il Duce seriously believes this bout took a toll on Ali??? He's just being facetious and you're falling for it.
Il Duce would have to be demented to believe what he's writing.

The jury is still out on whether he is a total nutter or simply a new wave comedian having a laugh.

I thought the latter for a while but now favour the former as he invests way too much time in it for it to be simply a wind-up.

Plus he's been doing it for years before he even appeared here. So, if it is some kind of elaborate 'joke', he's taking a long time to deliver the punch line.

I used to think that Zellenoff was the second coming of Andy Kaufman

The style seemed to be similar.

Not sure who to equate this fella with.

Maybe professor Irwin Corey?

If it does turn out to be a wind-up then maybe Andy never really had terminal cancer after all.

However, if, as I suspect, The Duchess is merely a shut-in nutter then his delusional state has to be up there with David Icke.

You remember David?

He writes books on how the world is controlled by a race of extra-terrestial shape-shifting aliens who resemble lizards when not in human form. The following are on his list of those who are such entities:

George Bush (1 and 2)
Queen Elizabeth 11 (and her mother who, surprise surprise, isn't actually dead)
Fred Feast - of 1980's Coronation Street fame and not really dead either

Duce. Do you know what? You should write a book...a fiction book twinged with elements of reality...using similar quotes as above. I am being serious here...you could have something...a bit of a humourous look at boxing...I think it's worth a try...you have the time and imagination for it.

From what I remember it was very one sided beating, I imagine the only thing it done to Ali was to hurt his left hand from the number of punches he hit Coopman with.

Seriously why is this illDuchebag allowed to carry on posting his inane anti Ali threads in here??? can't you mods see that he is reducing this forum to a joke!!... he is just doing it to upset and annoy people and should be banned. The lack of control in this forum has ruined it imo and for someone who remembers how good it used to be that is very sad.......

That qualified Jean-Pierre as a Challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship
set for February 20, 1976.
I don't think anyone will argue that Coopman did deserve a title shot, he had an awful record and it was an easy fight for a declining Ali. Love him or hate him Ali fought in the toughest HW era and fought and beat better quality opposition than any HW champion you care to mention, even you have to concede that one?

I don't think Il Manichino expects to be taken seriously.

BoxRec has provided Il Duce a safe environment to work through his emotional issues. Look at it as a public service.

As to the criticism that any decent heavyweight would have KO'd Coopman in 2 rounds---I think it was apparent watching the bout that Ali was merely going thru the motions in one of his softest title defenses. If he had opened up, he could have stopped the challenger whenever he chose.
Ali later said that he promised CBS that he would allow Coopman to last a few rounds so the network could get some commercials in. I believe it.
The "fight" was a walkover.

Yes, this should not even be a question or a topic, Coopmans, would make Jody Ballard look like Muhammad Ali, he would have had hell beating anyone in the top 200, Ali was taking a day off plain and simple, after a 32-5 record vs major contenders and champs, he kinda deserved one but not the lion of flounders!

i remember reading in a book somewhere, that in his dressing room
they had an ice pack on the back of Muhammad Ali's head
because it was so swollen from all those rabbit punches of Wepner's.
That fight and the third fight with Ken Norton
were really damanging imop
as well as the fight with Eearnie Shavers.
Dr. Ferdie Panchecko quit the team after the Shavers fight.

COOPMANS COULD NOT HAVE HURT ALI WITH A CONCEALED WEOPON, AL'S EZIEST FIGHT, NEXT TOO THE LISTON FARCE II. no he took nothing away from Ali, not even a decent workout, all ali's sparring partners and some of their wives could have beat the "Lion of Flounders!"
