Doughlin was knocked out twice at 154. Once by a journeyman. That's why Groves got stick. Also Doughlin isnt really an awkward slick southpaw. He's not that hard to hit.rd350lc wrote:i'm sure it is Groves , who I think whilst he didn't look too good last night , got a bit of unneccessary stick against a much trickier southpaw opponant than Degale looked to have . Re: Will Carl Froch Vacate
Carl has been brilliant for boxing but GGG could be the wrong fight to bail out on. If GGG catches him cold round one, all I'll say is GGG is no GGG0mez wrote:You can't really blame Degale for sounding off, he wants the Froch fight, not the belt (regardless what he says to the contrary).
I'd rather Carl vacated and then let the next generation fight it out.
Because if Froch smokes Degale - and I think he will lay him out badly - then our 168lb division is finished. Only Callum Smith will be left.
Plus we'd all prefer GGG instead, if HBO can write a big enough cheque.
Re: Will Carl Froch Vacate
Groves has the WBC Silver title. He's the #1 contender and basically a mandatory for Anthony Dirrell. Smith is ranked lower but he has the WBC International Title now which is like the next best thing after the Silver title from what I know. (not sure however)handsofstone wrote:Apoligies if this has already been discussed aplenty but who's actually Anthony Dirrell's mandatory?
George Groves or Callum Smith?
I know when Groves beat Rebrasse for the European it doubled up as an eliminator for the WBC
So what happened then? Did George vacate his mandatory spot to allow Smith/Sjekloca to fight for it

Re: Will Carl Froch Vacate
I think that Froch is in the same position that Hatton was in before Mayweather. Anyone but Golovkin or Ward will disappoint thousands of boxing fans (if not Froch fans), and I can't see him beating either. There's a chance that Golovkin might walk on to a shot, and a hurt Golovkin has more to fear from Froch than the same situation in reverse, but Froch's main hope would hinge on a reluctance to engage from Golovkin.
G's not a huge middleweight, so you never know, but I can easily imagine him using his lateral speed to find Froch's body. Ward's beatable whenever he's denied the spectacle of fame-forwarding fights. Froch is a big enough name to fire him up.

3 best wins on GGG's record:
Matt Macklin (lost last week)
Daniel Geale (who lost to barker)
Proksa (lost to Kerry Hope)
Would any of these above beat even today's version of Arthur Abraham ?
If we remove the emotion / excitement - and apply some logic , Gennady hasn't fought anybody at all.

Nobody wants Froch Dirrell 2.klitoris wrote:Andre Dirrell fights Derek Edwards in an IBF eliminator this December. I think it's for #2 ranking behind DeGale. If Andre wins, Froch should give him a rematch. Idk why Froch thinks he can get a PPV fight in US. Even the fight against Chavez, which is not going to happen, is borderline PPV. Like really borderline, because both haven't fought in a while. Plus the Mexican fans are way more excited for Canelo-Cotto right now. This fight would go unnoticed.
I think Dirrell would be the best bet for Froch right now. If not then DeGale.
Re: Will Carl Froch Vacate
But as good as Calzaghe was, Froch has earned the right even more so with his CV and 2 mandatorys in a row.Boxerbeetle wrote:Yup, and funnily enough it's exactly the same reasons now being cited for Froch that were given for Calzaghe - he's earnt the right to pick & choose opponents, wants to finish his career with a big name/money fight in the US...bripez wrote:I agree - and it just makes DeGale look even more of a nob than he usually does.fighting_irish wrote:DeGale calling Carl a coward is stupid, don't believe Carl has ever ducked a man in his life.
However, I would have more understanding for Froch is he didn't do / say what he did to Calzaghe when he was in the same position.
Just evolution I suppose - young pup comes through and wants to fight the old dog, after a while the young pup becomes the old dog.

Will Carl Froch Vacate?
I think that he will. Carl has repeatedly said that the only fight that motivtes him is the big one against Chavez Jr in Las Vegas.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see Froch stepping in against DeGale and cementing his position as the UK Number One by flattening DeGale. But I just can't see the fight happening...
If Froch vacates, DeGale will fight for a more-than-likely win the vacant IBF Title.

Re: Will Carl Froch Vacate
I think froch will vacate, but why does he want jcc jnr so badly?
Because it's his dad's name? The only way to get into Vegas? Surely he could fight a unification v Anthony Dirrell out there? Then come home paste degale before retiring?

Those rankings aren't up to date. Ramirez would get the fight he is the only one other than DeGale that's won an official eliminatorUrbanFox wrote:No. Dirrell's mandatory is Groves. Have you seen how big Chavez Jr is in Mexico? The popularity of the kid is HUGE... I've watched some of the promotional videos of him on Youtube and they make him out to be just as good as his father. They call him stuff like;nitro5912 wrote:I think froch will vacate, but why does he want jcc jnr so badly? Because it's his dad's name? The only way to get into Vegas?
"The Son of The Legend"
"The Legend Continues"
And the boxing fraternity over there, are going absolutely crazy about him... I'm telling you mate, if a Chavez Jr vs Froch fight was signed, then it would definitely take place in the MGM Grand. And the funny thing about it is, Chavez would be "the name" that sells it. (As crazy as that might seem to us)

Exactly. Chavez Jr is the big money fight. It's also the fight Carl would probably find easiest - he'd turn JCC Jr into a punching bag for 36 mins.Crease wrote:Have you seen how big Chavez Jr is in Mexico? The popularity of the kid is HUGE... Re: Will Carl Froch Vacate
And get well paid for it too... The only downside is that he'd probably have to drop his IBF Title, and that's a real shame considering the spectacular way that he won it.
