Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
How do you feel the event went on Saturday night?
"As an event, I thought it was great. Loads of entertainment, loads of big names, some decent fights. What we needed was the war we expected from Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew. Unfortunately it didn’t unfold. I watched it back; it’s not a bad fight, it’s just not what we hoped. I think everybody expected that to be great fight and it was just a decent fight without really catching fire.
I think as a night, from 6pm until midnight, it was jam packed, but, disappointing that the main event did not catch fire like we expected it to."
Who genuinely expected it to be a war? When has either Bellew or Cleverly been in a ring war?

Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Bellew had been involved in a fair few stinkers before the rematch and Cleverley was never the most exciting fighter. Nobody expected a war. People expected a close fight, similar to the first.
Close fight doesn't mean PPV level.
Easily the worst ppv fight of all time. Haye-Audley at least had a heavyweight title on the line and David Haye, who is a British boxing superstar.

Apparently their first fight was 'great'

I got that Buzz too, not just from this but all the PPV shite I've turned down. Sky's a noose round the neck, the prices they charge for 99%shite is terrible. I've seen what I wanted to see of the bill for sweet FA and even if I hadn't I couldn't care less. I called it being a total stinker anyway. All that shouting and slavering from Bellew said it all. The best do the damage in the ring.
Kovalev would best both on the same night, I'd wager at the same time.
It's probably the only way Nathan and Tony could win a world title.
Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Despite Eddie's spin and bullshit in that interview, it was a poor night of boxing for a PPV event. That's not because the fights didn't catch fire at all, despite his best efforts to pin it on those guys. The point he is missing and doesn't want to admit is that it shouldn't have been PPV in the first place because it was headlined by two mediocre guys that cant operate at world level because they aren't good enough. That's not a PPV event and never should be. If the fight had been an absolute classic it still wouldn't have justified the PPV. Its disappointing to see him try to palm the blame off on the main event not 'catching fire' and its also disappointing to see him talk crap about the idea that no one was complaining by the time the card started. If 'hard core' boxing fans had stopped complaining about the event by the time the card started, that's because they had given up on it and already resigned themselves to the fact that they were being ripped off. I also resent the idea that 'hard core' boxing fans are the ones that are going to come out and complain the most about fights being PPV. I would have no problem paying my sky sports subscription then paying a PPV charge a few times a year to watch big events where the best and most exciting fighters put on a big event. This isn't what was on offer though, hence why so many people felt cheated. The only difference between 'hard core' boxing fans and casual fans is we know when we are being ripped off and this was one of those cases, but Eddie wants to imply that we are all bitter anoraks who have nothing better to do than complain. Put on quality events at a fair price and people wont complain half as much....
Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
There was a lot of grudge-purchases of this card late on.
People who bought it, but definitely didn't have a smile on their face whilst doing so - and were very resentful afterwards about it when it panned out to be mediocre at best.

Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
To all those people I'd like to say that though not buying the PPV is a risk (maybe miss an incredible fight) it was grand to feel vindicated the next day. The next time they try to pull a stunt like that just don't buy it - it isn't a big chunk of money but it's enough and it is a good feeling to know that I am not just an addicted consumer who'll buy any old shite; try it, it might work for you tooG0mez wrote:There was a lot of grudge-purchases of this card late on.

Strange how Bellew has been crap to watch in the pros, as an amateur he was in some barnstormers, and I thought his pro career would be short but exciting.lillywhite14 wrote:Bellew had been involved in a fair few stinkers before the rematch and Cleverley was never the most exciting fighter. But as the estimable Palooka has said you could see this was a Turkey a long way before Christmas day.
Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Most people who get rich do so by tanning the arses of morons. It's always been that way. The next PPV will sell too.
Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Nice to see Danny Flexen on Boxing Matters admitting that he didn't buy the PPV.
Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Any of the fights on Saturday were usual SKY Sports Saturday boxing stuff, none on the bill was anywhere near PPV worthy and that is why it was a rip off and has upset so many who pay for SKY and saw little to no boxing in the month because Hearn put them all on the PPV show

Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Id love to know who all these people were crying out for there to be a Bellew v Clev rematch. Eddie Hearn is talking crap they manufactured a fight between two not very well known boxers, slapped a PPV tag on it, then went to work 24/7 hyping and marketing the fight to the casual fans. They did this to the point that people who didn't know any better thought they would miss out on the fight of the century if they didn't buy.
Hearn is also saying hardcore fans were moaning about the card before hand, then stopped moaning because the card was so good when all the names were released. Utter clap trap, the moaning died down because of all the "big names" are being added to the bill talk, which in the end just ended up being Groves against some no name.
It's amazing because barely any of us actually bought the fight and we still all think it was a shit night of boxing and a piss take of a PPV.

Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
He's basically admitting it was a piss take - 'this is not the model for future PPV events. Next year the PPV's will be huge fights..' So what was this PPV? A quick rip off the old PPV block to con a few more quid out of the 'fans'?
Let's get real, Fast Car doesn't give two shits about us fans. One minute he is giving us the fights the fights fans want! The next minute we are the minority complaining for the sake of complaining and told to switch off then.

Fast car is a businessman. He is in it to make money. Nothing wrong with that. Since when did a promoter put what the fans want over his own pocket? Not very often.

Are they mutually exclusive? A business gives customers what they want to retain their custom and support and, in the long run, both parties are happy.forcefraser wrote:Fast car is a businessman. They shouldn´t be. However after the push served up to us last weekend (both cards) it is difficult to call it any other way.Boxing Prospect wrote:Are they mutually exclusive? Re: Eddie Fast Car on PPV
Eddie chats bout it would've been looked at a decent fight without the hype, you created the hype you prick! 200k ppv buys? Mis-matchroom won't reveal the amount, neither will Sky, if it had sold amazingly I'm sure they would.
