Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
This is devastating news for Ricky. Whilst the buck obviously has to stop with him, it appears that he has been badly let down by his advisers, you'd think that this could ruin him financially unless somebody steps in to help him out.
Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
As if anyone's going to help him out. Terrible for him, though. Career pretty much finishing and financially wrecked.

It's a kick in the teeth. Especially if a now defunct company of FW still owes him from the Mitchell fight.

Oh dear, oh dear. As promotional splits go, this has to be one of the least successful for a boxer.

Didnt burns win a case against warren few months ago about oustanding payments?
its a nightmare situation , feel for Burns

Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
He did, but as Mickey points out above; he won the case against a now defunct company (and therefore will likely not get a penny) but has lost two cases against FW (the person) and therefore has to pay-up on those.Gazmac81 wrote:Didnt burns win a case against warren few months ago about oustanding payments?

Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns

All promoters are just there for the money. People that believe this new age fan friendly bullshit are fools.
Fact is, Ricky has been tapped up, told to write this nonsense letter that supposedly gets him out of any legal obligations(
) with FW and now has been well and truly shafted.
Man who gives it all in the ring does not deserve to be taken for a complete ride by those outside of it.
Horrible side of the sport, just awful for the boy.

Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
I bet the lawyers come out of it fine, you'd have imagined that matchroom lawyers would have looked over the contracts before Ricky switched and advised him. Surely he's not just walked into this with his eyes shut?

Not a fan of the promoter nor a hater. But contracts are contracts. Cannot blame the promoter for protecting his legal interests. The fighter and his advisors are to blame. They signed a contract and should have honoured it. They were happy with it when getting title fights and the money.
If promoters do not sue then what is to stop every fighter in every land just fckuing off whenever they fancy it?

Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
That's a good point Toby and it seems as if some of the more established promoters show genius when protecting themselves with companies that are shells or declare bankruptcy - it does seem as if the boxer as an individual is insecure when dealing with promotional companies. It should be a symbiotic relationship and it does sometimes seem a parasitic relationship.tobyh5 wrote:Not a fan of the promoter nor a hater. But contracts are contracts. Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
Is anybody else in the process of being sued for moving to match room? Or was it just burns who was mid contract?

Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
If the advice he has been given is negligent he should be able to sue whoever gave the advice, assuming it was given by a solicitor. All solicitors have to have indemnity insurance and so if he has relied on the advice of a solicitor that acted negligently then he should be able to sue. If not then he's right up the creek without a paddle.
Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
That thought struck me as well. Solicitor probably a limited company that will also cease trading before adding a word to their trading name with a new limited companySteveDow wrote:If the advice he has been given is negligent he should be able to sue whoever gave the advice, assuming it was given by a solicitor. Re: Allegedly wins latest court battle against Burns
LOL. Burns' solicitor turned over more than 100 million quid last year and they've been in business since before the war, so I don't think this will sink them. If they've got any shame, though, they'll hang their heads but I won't be holding my breath.tobyh5 wrote:That thought struck me as well. I notice how Matchroom are not getting any stick here. They were the ones that started this whole process, surely they should be backing Ricky now and digging deep to help him out.
Not sure how Frank can lose a court case and just not pay it by closing the company, surely he can just do this every time and dodge all cases he loses? Seems unfair to me.
