Amir Khan next fight

Post by wadey »

According to Amir Khan, his next fight will be at Wembley stadium.

It must be a big name, if he thinks he can fill Wembley.

With the exception of a fight against Floyd or Pacquiao i cant think of anyone else that he could fight that would fill Wembley.

I dont even think a titel fight between him and Brook would fill it.

Reading Boxing News today, it seems that Mayweather is going to box Cotto again, so maybe it will be Khan vs Pacquaio at Wembly?

If it does proceed like that i'd definitely be more interested in Khan v Pac than i would Floyd v Cotto II.

Pacquiao v Khan at Wembley? Sounds like a big fight to me.

Pacman fighting over here is genuinely exciting. Be amazed if it happens though

Providing Arum can juggle enough money his way without getting hit too hard by any particular revenue service, he'd have Manny fight anywhere I reckon. I'm confident they can make the fight.

Also wouldn't wembley have to be open in early hours for it to make American TV ?? Surely that wouldn't be allowed for tubes curfews etc etc

Why Wembley? He's from Bolton, put the fight on at the Reebok, or if it's big enough, Old Trafford/Etihad.

Personally think that would need a lot of work at Etihad or Old Trafford.

Any event can sell in London with a bit of hype. That doesn't necessarily apply up here.

He is not with Golden Boy anymore as I thought he was one of the ones they said Oscar has retained in that deal with Schaefer. Pretty sure that was in the press releases after the deal was announced

I thought Haymon wouldn't let him fight Pacquaio last year according to Arum, Haymon would rather Khan fight another guy from his stable $$$

I think Khan vs Brook would sell. Do all the big build up, bit of a rivalry brewing already, some WWE-style antics on Ringside and a load of PPV hype and I think it'd sell to the casuals definitely.

So Khan spends pretty much the last 4 years of his career fighting in front of small crowds in the US. On one occassion ticket sales were so bad you could get them on the night in exchange for two purchased toys that were then donated to poor children(!), then, all of a sudden, it makes business sense for him to fight pacquiao in the UK? Thats the complete opposite to every other fighters business model. Brits fight in front of big crowds in UK whilst striving for the big money one in vegas. Wembley may hold 50,000 but the US ppv sales and casino cash will always come out on top. A second tier seat for Mayweather Hatton was $1,000 face value - ringside for Mayweather Canelo was £9,000 and were snapped up and sold on secondry market or given to high rollers. A HD feed for Mayweather Alvarez in the US was $74.99 PPV! Casinos literally throw money into the pot to generate big vegas weekends. What will wembley do? Charge the promoter, be a logistical nightmare, provide a crap tarporline over the ring to protect the fighters from the inevitable drizzle and provide crap views for every paying fan bar ringside!

I agree with pretty much everything you say. The only reason i can think of for Khan to try and fight a real big name over here is that he would try and leverage a bigger percentage of the purse.

Khan v (for example) Pacquiao in Vegas - Pacman would have every right to dictate terms as he is the ticket seller, ppv face and basically the attraction. Khan is just a good name opponent.

In london, Khan can argue that he is a big part of the attraction too and will generate sales for the fight.

I still think Khan is very much the 'B' side fighter even if it was in London but it will help his case for more money

I'm still waiting for a big fight to materialize in the U.A.E. The UFC held an event there in Dubai last year which was successful ($3.5 million live gate) and I believe the Brazilian JuiJitsu world championships are held in Abu Dhabi so they do like their combat sports. Lord knows there is enough money out there.
