I just saw El Zurdo de Oro's fights with Johnny Famechon and Jose Legra. One could tell that after his first retirement and layoff, Saldivar was not the same guy. He did not had that same accurate punching and ferocity. He was a little bit slower than what I have seen in his first career.
Also, the fight with Japan's Kuniaki Shibata where he lost the WBC World Featherweight belt in Mexico. He took a long layoff of 7 months, I believe, before fighting Shibata. He was doing well on that fight, but, somehow, he was slowing down from round 9. Without an explanation, he quit on his stool. He had a cut below his left eye and was bleeding through the nose. I guess, he said "The hell with it. I am young, I am retiring from boxing right now".

To the British men in here that know about the underrated Howard Winstone. Why a fight with Australia's Johnny Famechon did not happened? Anybody from Wales or England could give us an insight.

Isn't it true that some feel that Ismael Laguna was robbed against Vicente?

If the fight would have been in Panama City, Panama, Ismael Laguna would have got the nod. It was a great fight that for me, it could have gone either way. It was a fight of two COMPLETE FIGHTERS in my view. I think I had Laguna winning the fight in my scorecard. But, if someone voted differently, I would not argue either. It was that close.

The great Vicente Saldivar, one of my favorite fighters from Mexico. "El Zurdo de Oro" was a classic!

so he literally only had half a right hand. His jabbing style was obviously developed to compensate, but you can appreciate why his punches often didn't seem to have that much effect
