True, I do think Gavin wins this easily thoughpalooka wrote:Warren he done a good job with Gavin and Hearn has picked him up at a high level, he doesn't need to slide back though that Van Heerden looked plenty strong and capable v Matthew Hatton.

You boys are really still just annoyed about the clev v bellew ppv so look for any reason to criticise now

Lots of good responses to your posts, don't know how to respond, so you come out with a childish commentpowderPuff wrote:You boys are really still just annoyed about the clev v bellew ppv so look for any reason to criticise now

Yes you got me I apologise
This forum thing gets me so frustrated when people don't agree with me

Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
Seems to me like they're probably on the same level...pretty good match-up in my opinion.
Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
Van Heerden looks to be on a similar level to Denton Vassell. I think this one is quite interesting actually. Gavin and Van Heerden are Euro level at best and there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone bleating on about him stepping up need to realise that he will only get a hiding if he does. If he gets through Van Heerden he'll probably fight Brook, get beat and get paid. Nout wrong with that.
Fair play to Matchroom on this one. I'll be tuning in.

I don't think it's a terrible fight by any means, although it is pretty underwhelming. Strongly agree that Gavin could move down a weight though, I know he keeps saying he can't, but maybe his camp should start insisting he tries to give it a proper go.

He's overweight

being set up for 8k I think (read somewhere).freddydoesdallas wrote:He's not a recognised name and his best win is Matthew hatton a few years back in a fight that's best remembered for the fella singing 'eye of the tiger'!powderPuff wrote:Yes he is
Why not?
I would be very impressed if 10k tickets get shifted for this
Think it'll do ok, the brummies are getting excited by an arena show. You know the type that couldn't be arsed to get a 15 min train to Wolverhampton for his fight against Bundu but will be all over this (cuz its on Sky)....those people don't really care about opponents do they.
Peaky Blinder caps and Zulu chants galore!

Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
I'd favour Gavin over Heerden, only looks like a 10 rounder as well. A better level of opposition than I thought it'd be. Must win for Frankie.
I'd expect Macklin to have a really easy contest on the undercard.

10 rounder ?
Not sure that works in Frankie's favour to be honest.

10 rounder headlining an arena show
Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
Unconvinced about Van Heerden although I havent seen Frankie matching the hype he had as an amateur yet?

Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
I thought Gavin edged Bundu by a round but he lost and Frankie hasn't beat anyone to deserve a big fight, don't get me wrong I'd rather see him in with a recent former world champ, just to get a look how Gavin deals with him but Van Heerden's a decent test
Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
They will sell it on the fact he was a world champion but in fairness he was on WBU or such like hardly meeting elite boxers.
Re: Frankie Gavin v Chris Van Heerden
It's an alright fight, without it being something to get overly excited about. I don't rate Gavin much as a pro do I wouldn't be surprised if van heeden joined Heiland and Zlatican as fighters who have beaten Matchroom guys on a Matchroom show

Gavin should be at 10st. Everyone can see it. He's fleshy and has no muscle definition at all.
Also, he's just exceptionally boring to watch - never engages really and lacks pop. There is no way they can build a fight with Brook from Gavin - it's a total mismatch.

I suspect I'd struggle to be overly enthusiastic about any fight involving Frankie Gavin, but all things considered this seems a fairly well-matched fight, based on Gavin falling short at Euro level.
I don't know why people are underwhelmed, who were you realistically expecting? Bradley? JMM?

agree with what you are saying but Vassel had a terrific physique at the weight and look what happened there .Happy Slapper wrote:Gavin should be at 10st. Everyone can see it. He's fleshy and has no muscle definition at all.

'Big fight made for Birmingham trust me you won't be disappointed'
And it's a fella who's best win is Matthew hatton years back

Mate, I do get that frustration, but all promoters hype their bills/fighters beyond belief. It's the nature of their role. Look at any press release for a Dennis Hobson show, or any thing that Mick Hennessey ever says. Eddie Hearn did not invent bullshit, although he is using a lot of it and on different platforms. It's not worth getting annoyed about, I just don't listen and judge the fights that are made on their own merits, otherwise I'd have stopped following the sport 20 years ago.
As I've said, it's a decent enough match-up, nothing more, nothing less, and seems a sensible match-up for Frankie Gavin at this point in his career.

Actually Matchroom can have that quote for the posters - "a sensible match-up". That should help shift a few thousand.
