Yes thought I'd imagined that terrible review, when I saw that ad...I can only imagine the awkward conversation the boxing monthly advertising guy had with Springs when he took out the ad. Hilarious quotes on the cover of his book, which mainly seemed to be along the lines of "this guy is the greatest boxing writer of all time ! ( now where's my cheque? )"reggaereggae wrote:he also absolutely ridiculed a book by someone called springs Toledo as I remember.
A month or so afterwards, I saw the same book advertised in boxing monthly on a full page.![]()
It seemed to have had some positive reviews in the USA for whatever that's worth.
Can't remember the title....anyone read it!?!
Yeah that publication is all a bit weird. I've never heard of the guy. Anyone heard of the legendary boxing scribe 'Springs Toledo'? Has he ever worked in boxing and if so,what did he do? Does he have any rich relatives in boxing?MightyWarrior wrote:Yes thought I'd imagined that terrible review, when I saw that ad...I can only imagine the awkward conversation the boxing monthly advertising guy had with Springs when he took out the ad. Just googled him. I knew before hand that he was one of the guys behind the Transnational Boxing Ranking Boardreggaereggae wrote:Yeah that publication is all a bit weird. I've never heard of the guy. I can never understand what Exshaw is talking about,I'm not the sharpest mindmagwitch wrote:The most interesting thing on that (review) page is a photo of Nigel Benn up to some sort of training I'm guessing (as opposed to deejaying).
The book sounds dreadful and not researched to any real extent, however, I'd sooner pass a couple of minutes reading some of its pages than go over such a condescending, pompous, so-good-am-I, and rather tedious review as that by John Exshaw here again. :>
Why? Too laugh at how awful it is?Boxerbeetle wrote:Just read the Exshaw review. Ironically, it actually makes me want to read the book more than most positive reviews would.
Erm, yep that's exactly it. I've always enjoyed laughing at crap writing. Probably why I spend so much time on herereggaereggae wrote:Why? It sounds so riddled with basic errors it's not even written by someone who knows boxing.
Frankly theres also something rather pointless and uninteresting writing specifically about fights that DIDN'T happen....
