Possibly not but if they are that confident in Frampton beating Quigg then maybe they are happy to take a lesser purse for this one knowing that the hype and fight for this on ITV will turn Frampton into the biggest star in British boxing since Hatton and then there is serious coin to be made.

Obviously, in this one-off scenario he could make a mint but longer term he will be a famous fella in N.Ireland but not a household name in the UK as a whole. If it was on ITV, my gran would be talking to me about the fight and how nice a fella he is

You make a fair point. I don't necessarily think the increased viewing figures on ITV will necessarily lead to Frampton being a bigger name than if they were to fight on Sky - it certainly hasn't done the likes of Froch, Brook and, more recently, Joshua any harm, nor Ricky Hatton for that matter.

Going back to a previous point: it is the promoters job to make as much money for himself as possible and not the fighters on the card. It is the managers job to negotiate and get as much money as possible for his fighter. Hence why Barry MvGuigan is not the promoter it is two of his sons.

Ie splitting the earnings of the whole event ie £15 x 750k estimated buys (or £7.50 less sky's cut) = £11m (£5.5m less sky)

Plus the gate £40 x 18k = £750k

Less undercard & costs = £5m

Why would he take £1.5m??????

I'm not a promoter but I won't be far off if they plan the date way away from any other PPV

Can't see it doing 750k on PPV but the gate will be a lot bigger than £750k, the cheapest tickets will be £40, but the average ticket price will be a lot higher. £1.5m is a great purse, but if the fight does brilliantly, fills the arena and does big numbers on PPV, Frampton still only gets £1.5m.

I can't see it doing massive numbers on PPV, only one of the fighters has name value and the other one finds it hard to attract support. It is not a Groves v Froch type attraction, but would do good numbers if it had a decent undercard with competitive title fights on it.

It's not a ppv but it would end up being billed as one judging by what passes for ppv thesedays. It's a bigger and better fight to than Clev-Bellew ever was for example.

Regarding the offer. It's a seemingly great one for Carl imo. Its a fight he will win, no matter where it takes place. Would get paid handsomely in the process and his stock will only rise further as a result. Unless it comes with various clauses he isn't happy with, then I can't see why he wouldn't go for it. Tell Barry that it's his career and he should keep his ego in check. Take the fight, beat Quigg, possibly in Manchester too ( better for the legacy, going into opponents backyard etc ) on a Matchroom show...perfect way to settle it once and for all!

Frampton isn't Hatton. Quigg isn't even Witter. Just get the fight signed I tells ya!

I hope Carl isn't signed long term to Barry's crew. Not saying he will screw him etc but I get the feeling Barry and his boys see themselves as just as important to whole thing as Frampton is. Carl is a star in his homeland already. He could get to a point very soon where he can call his own shots, meaning he makes more money which is what I always like to see for a fighter. He is the one taking the punches.

Boxing would be booming if this fight along with Brook-Khan got made and with Mayweather-Pacquiao happening the month or 2 before we would be spoilt

But this is boxing and the cynic in me is just waiting on Floyd or Manny getting an ankle sprain in training and these other 2 fights not materializing

Hearn is only offering this sort of money because he must be thinking it will be on PPV if he gets it.

Its a huge step-up from Bellew/ Cleverely, but still just a domestic scrap & unworthy of PPV as far as I'm concerned. Plus after Mayweather/ Pac you can guarantee that all future SKY PPV's will be £19.99.

Can see Frampton ignoring this & carrying on fighting on ITV, Quigg & Hearn need this fight far more than they do.

No, I am saying that a manager and a promoter have different roles and objectives, and if they are the same person then there is a conflict of interests.

(I am trying not to be condescending here, so apologies if I come across that way)

EG. Tony Sims, as Anthony Joshua's manager will try and get the purse as high as possible, whereas Eddie Hearn will try and keep it as low as is possible to keep both the show profitable but to also keep all parties involved happy. A second example is that when John Joe Nevin appeared on the Dublin bill, Hearn would have made that as low as is absolutely possible because he has no attachments to that fighter, but Nevin's manager would have made it as high as he could.

In the McGuigan's case, it is Jake and Blane McGuigan's job as promoters to ensure the show is profitable whilst still achieving goals. And it is Barry McGuigan's job to make as much money as possible for Carl. However, with both job roles being within the same company, then obviously they have to communicate with each other to ensure they reach all goals that are set by each party and the influencing factors surrounding that, whether that be money, titles, profile of fighters, rankings or the TV station.

He must be coming under pressure from above and feeling it as so far this year he has turned out a pile of shite. I cancelled Sky Sports in December and do not regret it yet as all the stuff they have aired I would not have stayed in for anyway. Hearn is trying to make bigger fights but all his potentials are not playing ball with the other sides not being interested (Khan, Frampton) and his starlets are being turned out in 90-10 fights. I hope no one steps up to give his fighters a big fight and then maybe Sky will see the monopoly they gave him was stupid and will allow in other promoters

At the risk of being unfashionable on these boards at the minute and defending Eddie, it seems quite clear to me that Hearn endeavoured to sit down and negotiate. To put forward his ideas and see what they could bring to the party.

But the absence of Frampton himself from the meetings / correspondence probably sent alarm bells ringing again.

At the end of the day, there seems to be an obsession with Barry about 'Cyclone' getting equal billing, that it must be Cyclone this, that and the other.

That's absolutely fine and understandable - But where is his money coming from? has he got a pledge of millions from ITV or somewhere to meet his half of the cost of footing the even, the purses and the undercard? not to mention the venue, staff and policing ?

He left Sky, took Frampton off with him and now wants complete parity for his promotional company ?

Fair play mate, it looks right now like you may well end up being right about the Khan and Frampton fights not being made I will say tho even if they don't get made by the end of the summer (which looks likely) there is still a chance something could happen before the years up. I'd point out I was taking the stance I took off the back of Parson (a respected, in the game, poster) disagreeing with yourself, and I still believe him over you with regards what you said about Froch v Chavez. Honestly bud I don't have a problem with you at all, although it's fair to say we are likely to be in a constant state of disagreement on anything regarding Matchroom or allegedly/Queensbury. I'd point out now I'm not pro Matchroom to the point I'll never criticise them. I didn't think the last PPV was a good move at all. However, my stance is, I prefer what Matchroom are doing with their Sky contract compared to the promoter/s who had the Sky deal in the Hatton and Calzaghe days. I much prefer these bills to Calzaghe v Evans Ashira with an atrocious undercard (check out the undercards for some of these bills.)

Back on topic there's the usual level of baffling points from some in here. Some are saying the fight should be on ITV to increase the fighters exposure. Surely when you are increasing a guys exposure it is with a view to getting them to a point where they can fight on Sky PPV?? That platform is what makes the most money, by a country mile. Frampton v Rignondeaux or Santa Cruz would not be on Sky PPV, likewise Quigg vs those names. So for both guys, this is Everest when it comes to money, why say 'oh well we want to increase our exposure for fights that won't be PPV, so we will punt millions down the drain in the name of exposure and have the fight on ITV. Cyclone want a co promotion and it seems obvious to me they are looking at Sky PPV and not ITV. In their press release there wasn't a word about having an issue with the network, to me it seems patently clear that Cyclone have the opinion that they deserve a co-promotion despite having an inferior TV deal (in terms of money generation) and Matchroom believe they deserve to be the sole promoter as they have the tv deal but the fighter with the smaller fanbase and not a genuine respected World title.

Also I'd point out to the people who can't stand Eddie Hearn's ego that Barry McGuigan from what I'v seen has the most enormous ego going. Crusader in a fight night discussion thread went off on one a few weeks back because Eddie Hearn was present to talk at a fighters post fight interview. With McGuigan it seems to be a necessity in the contract for him to be spoken to at least six times before, during and after any fight. And if a camera man fails to get his reaction to a Frampton victory then that cameraman gets executed.

It will be bastard shame if the fight never happens because neither fighter will make anywhere near what they could make for this if they were to fight Rigo or Santa Cruz.
