AFAIK Taylor never won a single world title or.meaningful fight at 168 which is why i don't think it stands alone as a defining.win but one of two or three

I think Bute might be defining in the sense that Froch was at home and still the underdog and coming off the pretty one sided defeat to Ward and he managed to KO him early and ruined him to become world champ again

But as for defining Froch the fighter,I think warrior and that come from behind KO against Taylor, proper old school Rocky stuff

i always thought bute was getting more and more overrated at the time but nonetheless a great win.

The Taylor fight just changed the course of his career for me, or should i say that last round. EPIC

Good post stoney. Froch has rubbed me up the wrong way in a couple of interviews but has also come across very well indeed in others. Hes been brilliant for us boxing nerds and we will miss him when he is gone, more so than calzaghe i m o, because tho calzaghe was i m o greater overall and a much bigger mancrush of mine, undoubtedly froch has contributed more to my enjoyment of boxing.

Do you think we will get a cover version of JC's "Miss him when he's gone", on Carl's guitar when he has gone? Rachael backing singer.

It did get shown live in the UK, but it was on Primetime PPV, I remember having to pay for the online stream. One of the best tenners I ever spent, lost my voice for a few days after that unbelievable final round

It did get shown live in the UK, but it was on Primetime PPV, I remember having to pay for the online stream. One of the best tenners I ever spent, lost my voice for a few days after that unbelievable final round

I seem to remember McGuigan commentating on it as if he didn't know the result,but it was plainly obvious he did

As to boxing, i think Bute was the best win as it was so decisive, though you could argue Bute was overrated.

I watched the documentary, thought it made for pretty good viewing. It's nice revisiting some of his old battles. But I thought that it could've been a 2 hr show and more emphasis could have been put on to the Super Six tournament - the Johnson & Abraham fights were tough, tough bouts in themselves, and the final against Andre Ward was barely mentioned.

But him being clocked in the amateurs by GGG, left me with a slight doubt. Then when he was stumbling around in the first Andrade fight, made me think he is too big for super middle and should move up.

He seems to be a broken man nowadays since that loss. I think if he'd have faced people like Taylor, Abraham etc he would have done as well as Froch did, maybe better.

But against a tough bugger like Froch or Kessler, then I don't think he'd have the mettle to win a axe fight with them. He had it all in spades, but his toughness was lacking.

Agreed.i won a decent amount on Froch by KO. I'd heard he'd been stopped and hurt in the Ams; at a time when no one ever seemed to get Ko'd.

Who thinks we'll see him back in the ring? I don't think he'll box again. I heard him say in an interview that he'd been boxing since he was 8 or whatever, when fighters say that it usually means they are starting to wonder what else they could be doing. Plus he doesn't need the money.

I'd not seen the big Kessler II punch by the Dane where Carl's legs buckled. Wow. Likewise the Groves bomb seemed to have him in the twilight zone for 2 or 3 rounds. Impressive powers of recovery!
The footage of Groves (who I had actually wanted to win) not letting go of Carl's hand at that handshake made Groves look bad - I know this docu was cut for Carl Froch purposes. Maybe it was nerves from a less experienced fighter, who knows.
Also the ref in Kessler II at the end was getting in the bloody way whilst not actually stopping the damn fight! Had Kessler turned around and put him down (Froch, not the ref) it would have been a touch iffy! Fortunately the bell rang to end the fight.

The Klitschko doc looked good that came on after it. Only watched half but i'm sure Vitali said the Chernobyl site was 100 yards from their window....
It should a few of his kickboxing contests. He looked like a beast.

What did the documentary say about the ward fight? That was clearly the biggest most defining fight of his career. Winning it would have made him the undisputed no1 super middleweight.

Vitali has a murky past. Definitely a juicer imo, in fact he got banned for it when he was an amateur. He was a scrawny kickboxer, but he was very young so weight gain was always going to happen.

2011 Lillywhite, it said on tv before they aired it, so probably. I think they only mentioned it to point out it was before the most recent trouble there.

A coach said VK was completely and utterly clumsy when he turned up. There's a left hook on there that put a kickboxer out for the count - sparko I believe they say. We don't know the bloke's level but I sure wouldn't have wanted to get hit by that.
