Removing the Boots
Question: why, when a boxer is knocked out, are those at ringside or in the corner so quick to remove his boots?
Re: Removing the Boots
Something to do with the blood supply, I would have thought?

Knockout (or really bad knockdown)
Re: Removing the Boots
You ever see a boxer's team take his boots off in the ring after a knockdown?AntonS wrote:Knockdown or Knockout ?Cutman Scabbers wrote:Question: why, when a boxer is knocked out, are those at ringside or in the corner so quick to remove his boots?

Re: Removing the Boots
yes, many times
Re: Removing the Boots
I have, but not for that reason. Maybe it's something WBC or WBA thought was an excellent idea at one of their annual piss-ups.....ouch! I mean conventions.
Bit like WBA's recommendation to its regional bodies their titles should be contested over 11 to reduce Draws

David Hayes boots were removed even without a knockdown.JCS wrote:You ever see a boxer's team take his boots off in the ring after a knockdown?AntonS wrote:Knockdown or Knockout ?Cutman Scabbers wrote:Question: why, when a boxer is knocked out, are those at ringside or in the corner so quick to remove his boots?
Re: Removing the Boots
Some guys feel they got better control of their footwork without them. Other times slippery canvas, due to logos
Re: Removing the Boots
I can't remember seeing this happen after a bout, the gloves - yes, the boots - no.
Re: Removing the Boots
I've been in boxing for over 35 years and have never seen that. Makes no sense. I've never seen it in American football either and they get players KO'd also.Cutman Scabbers wrote:Question: why, when a boxer is knocked out, are those at ringside or in the corner so quick to remove his boots?

Just saw it happen a few days ago at an amateur tournament. Dude went down hard from one punch,
trainer and official jumped up and started unlacing his gloves and boots.

What about headgear? One would think that would be the 1st to be removed for breathingCutman Scabbers wrote:Just saw it happen a few days ago at an amateur tournament. Dude went down hard from one punch,

Re: Removing the Boots
If that's in response to JCS, you're saying that there's been many times that you've seen a fighter's team take off his boots after a knockDOWN??Cutman Scabbers wrote:yes, many times
Regarding knockOUTS, yes, the boots come off asap here in Korea. I see it at every fight show.

Why do they come off?

Souvenir hunters? :)Cutman Scabbers wrote:Why do they come off?
Blood circulation was mentioned above. That's what I always assumed.
Re: Removing the Boots
I'd not like to think how many knockouts I've seen and in all honesty I've never seen anyone take the boots off. If this happens regularly would someone please post a link?

Maybe it's an Asian thing?
Re: Removing the Boots
It may be, Cutman - there are some posters on B and I Forum who really know a lot about Eastern and Pacific boxers, they may be able to shed some light.Cutman Scabbers wrote:Maybe it's an Asian thing?
Re: Removing the Boots
Didn't they take some fighter boots off in Blood sport?
Re: Removing the Boots
I looked-up some of the KO's I've witnessed here in Korea, but the camera seems to switch to the winner before you can see the boots get taken off.palooka wrote:I'd not like to think how many knockouts I've seen and in all honesty I've never seen anyone take the boots off.
