I agree about the time thing, so isn't Whyte the perfect opponent for Joshua? Would you rather he fight Povetkin or Thompson?Horse wrote:Who had Mike Tyson fought after 15 fights?Maxsplit wrote:Chisora hadn't won an Olympic Gold medal and been salaried on a £250k wage for a number of years [before FCUK sponsorship] - Del Boy had to the best of my knowledge - a full time job when he was fighting Fury, Helnius & Vitali.
And Joshua will be 14-0 when he beats Cornish.
It's an unequivocally Feeble/embarrassing opponent list Joshua has vs Chisora in the same number of fights.
Time is more important than the number of fights when talking about a fighter's progression.
Joshua is moving forward at a good pace. What reason is there for him to rush to world level within the next few months?

I'm not against Whyte or Cornish as opponents in British title fights towards winning the belt outright.keithmoonhangover wrote:I agree about the time thing, so isn't Whyte the perfect opponent for Joshua? Would you rather he fight Povetkin or Thompson?
I just don't think that Whyte is an opponent that deserves to be hyped as a big step up for Joshua or anything like that. He's merely an acceptable opponent under the circumstances.

Plenty of people on the forums have been saying "it's the first proper test for Joshua"or "he's the first opponent who'll come to win" etc.keithmoonhangover wrote:Who's hyping him as a big step up? I haven't heard Hearn or Joshua say it's a big step up.

He is the first guy who will come into the ring convinced he's going to win and some of that comes from being unbeaten. He's had Joshua on the floor and will be convinced he can do it again. Do you not agree?Horse wrote:Plenty of people on the forums have been saying "it's the first proper test for Joshua"or "he's the first opponent who'll come to win" etc.keithmoonhangover wrote:Who's hyping him as a big step up? Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
It's a decent fight, domestically. I'm looking forward to it. AJ and Whyte both need to settle the score.
Yes, AJ is looking solid but I'd expect Whyte to give it a go.
At least it's not a cruiserweight moving up like most German promoters seem to make.
I'm sure mentally, Joshua really wants this fight to see where he is at.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
I don't mind it given their history and the fact that AJ, however impressive, is still fairly inexperienced as a pro. More than Joshua's previous opponents I can see why DW may be confident and actually have a go while I can also see AJ being really up for this fight to avenge the amateur loss. There were better options and I'd still prefer someone like Wach, but it's not a bad fight in my opinion (though maybe it really is and I've just lowered my expectations after seeing Cornish mentioned as a likely opponent
).

I don't assume that Whyte thinks that he will win.keithmoonhangover wrote:What part of what I've said do you disagree with?
He's not shown that he's an ambitious fighter so far in his career and I see no reason to give this unproven fighter the benefit of the doubt.
He might well just be showing up for the payday.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
To the folk who are complaining about this opponent: who should he be fighting? for the level of expeience Joshua has this is a pretty fair match up on paper. He will win as he is on a different level of ability to Whyte but it is hardly a mismatch of epic proportions.

Whyte has done bugger all as a pro. Why does this no mark get so much hype?
Easy win for Joshua now, two round max I reckon.
Just like Joshua.
They are both relative novices being moved gradually along a relatively risk free path.
What makes this a decent match up is that Whyte is probably sognificantly better than anyone Joshua has faced so far.
So regardless of how well tested Whyte has been or who he's been in with he is still a better test for AJ than he's had to date.
Plus it's got the added spice of having history and rivalry.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Joshua's record is much, much better than Whyte's. Joshua has done more than bugger all as a pro.davie wrote:Whyte has done bugger all

Whyte has not shown that he is probably better than anyone that Joshua has faced so far. There's a good chance that a few of Joshua's opponents could have beaten him.

I'll answer it for you, you haven't sat down and talked to many unbeaten boxers, so you wouldn't have the first clue about how they feel. I've interviewed and chatted to my fair share of unbeaten fighters and not a single one of them thought they were going to lose their next fight.

Joshua has beaten Airich, Bahktov and Johnson these are far better opponents than the various Turks and Latvians that make up Whytes opponents.davie wrote:

Whytes 'best' win is over a 43 year old, 3 years inactive Mike Holden

I don't care about your little chats with boxers. Being unbeaten doesn't impress me.keithmoonhangover wrote:This is a boxing forum, a place for us to discuss boxing. I asked you a simple question and all you can manage is.

Whyte is unbeaten against a poor bunch. He's not unbeatable and I doubt that he thinks he is either.

Ok. Joshua has done a slightly higher level of bugger all.
I'm one of the first to defend Joshuas rate of progression on here (because I don't think there's any need to rush him) but lets be honest, Joshua hasn't taken on anyone of note.
I'd back whyte to deal with Airich, Bahktov and Johnson.
Perhaps not as impressively as AJ did.
Whyte will be Joshuas best opponent, again he brings something new to the table in an unbeaten record, a bit of ambition and a rivalry.
