Freiheit
That is a world class question. I have just been on a conference call for 30 minutes but spent most of the time puzzling on this:
1. UK (by a mile), if you count the WBO there are about 50 odd British world champions, take out the WBO there must still be at least 35
2. France
3. Italy
I reckon both of these are very close, probably about 15 champs each
4. Germany - not many pre-war, but quite a few in the last 15 years.
5. Ireland- probably about half a dozen
If I had to divide out the UK, the England would be top, France, ITaly and Germany still in their places, Scotland might overtake Ireland

Almost correct. Michalczewski is polish, the other 6 are correct, and they are the only german ever to be world champs. Germany is 7th in Europe.Loynesy wrote:German champs (and I may have missed some cos this is off top of the head)
Max Schmeling (obviously)
Henry Maske
Sven Ottke
Marcus Beyer
Dariusz Michaelczeski
Graciano Rocchigiani (I know he sounds German but he was definiterly German)
Dagge (can't remeber his first name, was a superwelter)
We still have to find 4 & 5 allthough you have been close. Both countries claims to speak english
Really?
Just trying to work out who.
Ireland
1. Steve Collins
2. Barry McGuigan
3. Dave "Boy" MAuley
4. Wayne McCulloch
5. Jonny Caldwell
5. Rinty Monaghan
6. Mike Mctigue (spelling?)
And thats it. Are you counting some dodgy Irish-Americans from way back such as Dave Sullivan?
I'll have a think about Scotland in a minute.

4. Ken Buchanan (another great guy)
5. Walter MacGowan
6, Dick MAcTaggert
7. Jackie Patterson

McTaggert (rather embarassingly for me), never turned pro, he was an Olympic champion thoughFreiheit wrote:I dont have Dick MacTaggert, can you give me a link to his record?Loynesy wrote:OK Freiheit, Scotland, I've got
