Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
Hughie will be older than Mike Tyson was when he fought Berbick so no records.

Boxrec had Mayweather v Pacquaio listed in 2010 and we know what happened there.crusader wrote:BoxRec has a history of jumping the gun.davie wrote:I was reading this thread and didn't actually notice it was made

According to Fat Dan it sounds like the Polish guy has got the fight. Seems like Wilders team panicked, and called everyone when, and now that the WBC have "agreed" to put Wawrzcyk in their rankings...
...have to wait and see I guess...

That's why the bodies are losing so much credibility they need to step in and turn these fights down. Povetkin destroyed Wawrzcyk a few years ago without breaking a sweat and on his recent form would probably blast him out in a round.Boxing Prospect wrote:According to Fat Dan it sounds like the Polish guy has got the fight. I feel Wilder would outclass Lucas Browne but this fight shows a lack of confidence in him from his team. Will be very interesting what happens regarding the Povetkin fight.

As I predicted Wilder will back out hastily as soon as Fury agrees. Man is a chicken.Boxing Prospect wrote:According to Fat Dan it sounds like the Polish guy has got the fight. I would be surprised if the fight happened, but just imagine the piss taking if he won and beat Tyson to a world title!
As somebody said on the Twitter, why don't the Furys suggest Eddie Chambers as an opponent? - at least they would still earn out of it.
I don't see what Chambers gets out of his arrangement unless he is happy to be a (well paid?) sparring partner.
What happened ? - do you know who he is trained / managed by now ?

Not sure, they're still on good terms though.

They obviously know he is fragile, and are desperate to avoid putting him in with a power puncher.

I'm a big fan of Hughie but this fight is way to early.
Wilder seems desperate to avoid a puncher.
Can't wait to see how he wriggles out of the Povetkin fight.

So is this fight made or not? I'm seeing lots of conflicting reports.
Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
Peter called out Briggs for Hughie on WK/TF under card. Whereas, Whyte wants Lukas Brown on the same card.Boxerbeetle wrote:So is this fight made or not? I'm seeing lots of conflicting reports.
Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
This. I really don't think Wilder is anything special but it smacks of taking fights against names they know they're ahead of nothing else. Or as someone else said, throwing out names so when it is a total nobody they can say they offered all these people. If Price's confidence wasn't so shot I'd still back him to knock Wilder spark out if they fought. He's got all the tools to do the job on him.mickey1975 wrote:Behave, Keith. When the time is right, they'll get it on. It says more about Wilder that he's even asking for this than it does Hughie.keithmoonhangover wrote:I thought the Fury's were fighting men, who would fight anybody anytime?

Definitely a no lose situation. It's a bit like a young footballer getting a chance to go to a big club, it could pay off and you get in the team or you fail and drop down a level to make a comeback.

Er yes..... Except you don't get knocked the f--k out on a football field. A bad ko can ruin a careerkeithmoonhangover wrote:Yep.azzman wrote:Definitely a no lose situation. Everytime you get in the ring, you could get KOd. In risk versus reward, this fight is worth it.reggaereggae wrote:Er yes..... Except you don't get knocked the f--k out on a football field. But you can fade into obscurity and ruin your career like so many have done. It's a risk but Hughie has to take the fight, if he turns it down then the opportunity might never be there again.reggaereggae wrote:Er yes..... Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
Paddypower have odds for the fight
Wilder 1/12
Hughie 6/1
Wilder 1/12
Hughie 6/1
Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
I'll be shocked if it happens tbh just because of Peter's travel complications when getting into the USA.Naandrew wrote:Paddypower have odds for the fight

But I am surprised that Lemiuex is longer odds vs Golovkin than Hughie is vs Wilder (especially as Wilder has the highest KO%). I guess nobody has much faith in Wilder's chin, even vs a 20 year old novice!
Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
Hughie is a good prospect but that this fight is even being contemplated shows just how crap the division is. Nuclear power or not, Wilder must be seen by his handlers as a catastrophic accident waiting to happen.

Jesus this actually seems to be on, so the most padded record in HW history continues to plumb new depths.
Re: Deontay Wilder offered Hughie Fury his Sept 26 fight
I agree with the sentiment of taking an opportunity, although I also agree that in boxing the person can become unstuck in ways that don't apply in other sports.azzman wrote:reggaereggae wrote:But you can fade into obscurity and ruin your career like so many have done. According to interviews, the plan is for Tyson to win all of the belts and then to vacate one for Hughie to fight for and they will both hold titles at the same time and be in a good position to pick their opponents.

If your in the top 200 in the world you've got a chance of fighting Wilder.MightyWarrior wrote:Jesus this actually seems to be on, so the most padded record in HW history continues to plumb new depths.
It especially helps if you have no knockout power.
