The #1 Fantasy Boxing Fight EVER: 89 Roy Jones Jr vs 49 Sugar Ray Robinson

Post by Chepppaaa »

the 2 best boxers ever, same weight, same height 5'11.

jones weight 155 amundsen in 89 and sugar weight 155 against lee in 49.

young jones was already prime time, never before seen speed (amundsen fight), as for sugar, he was prime around 44-49.

so prime jones vs prime robinson, at 155, who wins the fight who would determine who truly the best boxer ever is!!! :OhYes:

Robinson, because 155 wouldn't have been Roy's best weight. Roy was best as a SMW imo and at that weight he would be too much for Robinson who was at his best at a lower weight.

RJJ was an incredible amateur, but in 1989 he was inexperienced as a pro and putting him up against one of the greatest boxers of all time is just unfair. Experience counts and so does Robinson's much better chin. Robinson by KO.

Robinson would have ruined him. Roy was tight at 160, and was only fighting at those weights as a novice pro.

Jones was a completely different build to Robinson, he was at his best at 168, and probably walked around over 175, whereas Robinson was at his best at 147 or less.

With next day weigh ins, Robinson would probably have been competing at 135 for much of his career in this era, moving up to 147 for the rest, and having only a brief foray at 160.

Robinson was sleight at 160 and in always looked a little soft compared to his welterweight heyday, and was far more beatable, despite still being one of the greats. At 147, he was the best in the world for five years, before he even got a title fight.

Robinson easy. Roy was nowhere near his prime in 89.
