Davey Moore won the light-middle title at 23 and in only his 9th fight, put together some good defenses until he got destroyed by Duran. Oddly enough he would stop Benitez after that fight, but was seen as shopworn after losing to Duran, he did get another title shot, but again beaten badly by the end of it. Finished by the time he was in his late 20's.

david reid is the one that springs to mind, but francsico bojado was supposed to have been the next big thing before he crashed and burned.

David Reid is a good one.,I don't think you could consider Bojado to ever have been shot, he just never made the grade.veriton wrote:david reid is the one that springs to mind, but francsico bojado was supposed to have been the next big thing before he crashed and burned.

How old is Tyson Marquez? Pretty young to be as shot as he is, I'd say.
Segura, too. (interesting to compare them with a couple of their flyweight contemporaries, Pongsaklek, Sosa, Viloria. Styles either do or don't make for longevity, is a lesson shown by many of the fighters named on this thread)

Colin McMillan turned pro with a ton of hype and was expected (especially by me) to go on to great things. His loss to Robinson effectively ended his proper world title dreams.
Re: Fighters who were considered shot at a young age..
Riddick Bowe was shot to pieces by the age of 27. He was the same age as Fury is now when he fought Golota and had been a pro for more or less the same length of time. By the time he'd been a pro for as long as Joshua has now he'd fought Bert Cooper, Tyrell Biggs and Tony Tubbs.

No reason to stop boxing. Quit the drink and the gambling, ignore christmas and knock a few doors on a Sunday offering people a free magazine and you're in!mickey1975 wrote:No, he joined The Jehovas Witnesses.Stevieb8006 wrote:Want he disillusioned by being unbelievably blatantly robbed vs graham earl twice?Stuarty30 wrote:Bobby Vanzie wrapped it young after a few defeats. Out of interest, could anyone tell me who trained Bobby vanzie? He was slick
Re: Fighters who were considered shot at a young age..
I think he was with Bradford Boys in the amateurs, maybe that Yorkshire angle helped develop an Ingle style of boxing! In the pro's I am pretty sure Jack Trickett looked after him.Stevieb8006 wrote:Out of interest, could anyone tell me who trained Bobby vanzie? He was slick

Errol Christie made his debut in 82 and was losing by stoppage a lot by the late 80s
Re: Fighters who were considered shot at a young age..
I could be wrong, and I meant Jack Doughty not Jack Tricket!!mickey1975 wrote:Wasn't he Karmand Centre?Coco wrote:I think he was with Bradford Boys in the amateurs, maybe that Yorkshire angle helped develop an Ingle style of boxing! I think the Trinidad fight came far too early for him and ruined him as a fighter. Trinidad did the same to David Reid, who was also never the same and 'shot' at a young age. Poor management there. Trinidad, like Golovkin now, wasa a beast below middleweight.johnswan1 wrote:Oh yeah, that's the one I couldn't think of - Vargas is the most shot I have ever seen from a guy in his 20's. Seeing his final performance against Mayorga was like watching an old man.G0mez wrote:Fernando Vargas
He's only 37 today, but was shot by 2005 aged about 27.
I reading about him rattling off 17 or 18 stoppages when he began, then got took the distance by Winky, then halted by Felix, Oscar, Mosely, Mayorga etc.

Bernard Hopkins. Such a shame that a 49 year old man couldn't cut it with Krusher in his last outing.

I'd have thought El Nica would have been ruined by Marquez following their second bout but he's looked good recently.Counter-puncher wrote:How old is Tyson Marquez? Pretty young to be as shot as he is, I'd say.

As for Marquez he's just 27 but a very old 27 as you suggested.

Yeah Concepcion looked brilliant last time out, back to his aggressive and exciting beat...maybe was the move up that helped.

I checked and it was Karmand. What a remarkable group the 1990 boys club winners were...Coco wrote:I think he was with Bradford Boys in the amateurs, maybe that Yorkshire angle helped develop an Ingle style of boxing!
