Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
I'm OK with either guy winning.
I will say it again, I think the fight will go for Cotto.
The first 6 rounds will look something like the first 6 rounds of the "Cheato fight,
except Cotto will go to Canelo's body more than he did Antonio's.
The difference is that the last 6 of this fight will have Miguel sitting down on his shots,
taking advantage of a softened up Kid Cinnamon.
But, I can also see Canelo imposing his size, just think it is less likely here.

Rooting for Cotto. Hoping to see that overrated kid flat on his back, but history shows when Canelo can't figure things out he'll just bend over and take it so Cotto UD.
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Struggling to pick between 2 fighters I really like.
Went for Canelo for 2 reasons, I think he'll win and has a big future.
The loss would set him back where as it will have little impact on Cotto

Now, when it is clear that Cotto is a crook who refuses to pay Golovkin promised step aside money, I want Canelo beat him as bad as Margo did.
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Did he? I thought he paid GGG $800k. Wouldn't that be part of a contract?ikorolev wrote:Now, when it is clear that Cotto is a crook who refuses to pay Golovkin promised step aside money, I want Canelo beat him as bad as Margo did.

What is? Not giving $1.1m to gangsters and crooks?
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Is Golovkin a gangster or a crook ? Cotto pocketed the 800k step aside fee.Ricky_ wrote:Deadendgeneration wrote: Scumbag move that. Canelo it is then.

Cotto owes Golovkin nothing. The belt is a sham anyway. "step aside fee"... i've never heard of anything so stupid in my life. Just give Golovkin the damn belt, who cares.
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Untill now it was junior middleweight with catchweight. This time I dont even know if the belt is on the line since Cotto stripped or something. I mean WTF is WBC doing? First you cant defend 160 title at 155 but you can even less so win it in this manner. Thats madness. Needless to say I wont recognize Alvarez as a middleweight champion or title holder.ttornado wrote:It's 5 pounds, this is a MW title fightTarkus wrote:155 catch weight annoys me, but its only a single pound, so I am willing to over look it.

Does anyone actually thinks that belt is worth 1.1. million bucks?

Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Agreeing to give GGG the money to step aside months ago, only to change his mind and instead drop the belt at the last minute. First he plainly lied to GGG and his people. If he'd simply dropped the belt months ago then chances are GGG would already have the belt rather than waiting to what happens Saturday and hoping if Canelo wins that the fight can be made.Ricky_ wrote:Deadendgeneration wrote: Scumbag move that. The way I see it, he could easily have screwed over Canelo as well. I don't recall ever seeing a fight where the title is only on the line for one of the fighters unless a fighter failed to make weight. The WBC make the rules up as they go along and I've no problem with them not getting their sanctioning fee but they could have easily stripped Cotto and given the belt to GGG. In fact, were Canelo not Mexican and more popular I'm pretty sure that's what they would have done.
Negotiating terms with Canelo to fight for your title, agreeing the step aside fee then changing your mind at the last second. They're the scumbag moves.

Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
Yes and no. If I remember , Cotto is getting a much, much bigger slice of the pie than Canelo. Surely the chance for Canelo to get another belt in another division played some part in those negotiations. He should have dropped the belt before signing contracts and before agreeing to pay GGG step aside money.tiny_acres wrote:Does anyone actually thinks that belt is worth 1.1. million bucks?
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
I bet Cotto's split would be at least a few million lower if he wasn't a WBC champion. So, yes, in Cotto's case, it is worth 1.1. million bucks.tiny_acres wrote:Does anyone actually thinks that belt is worth 1.1. million bucks?
And if he thought that it didn't, then he should have dropped the belt right away without signing a step aside agreement and deceiving everybody.

the belts at this level level are nothing more than a source of income for crooks and gangsters. The reason they invent so many, diamond belts etc... it's all just sanctioning fees. It's a farce and should be outlawed.
How long did Mayweather have the 154lb belt without actually fighting for it? Did WBC care then? No, because they want high-earners like Cotto and Mayweather holding their belts, earns them more cash.
I'm glad Cotto has screwed them over, crooks. As for Golovkin, he;s the best p4p fighter in the world by a mile and now officially a PPV only fighter. He doesn't need to be taking bribes, or whatever shit you wanna call "step aside money". Stay clean Gennady!
Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
I guess I'll root for Canelo. Its hard for me to imagine that he loses this fight. Cotto got his ass handed to him by Trout, who Canelo beat, but narrowly. I think Cotto's improvement is more of match-making than anything else. I have been equally critical of Canelo's opponents too, but he did fight Lara, which Cotto will never do. (even though I thought Canelo lost to Lara)
Pretty even fight on paper I guess. If Canelo gets him trapped on the ropes I think Cotto is in trouble, big time. Fun fight though, I don't really care who wins.

He won in the big fight vs Mosley, won in the big fight vs Sergio so I wouldn't say he's lost every big fight he's been in, only the biggest (Manny and Floyd). Margarito cheated but Miguel got his revenge so I don't count that first loss against him, Trout fight wasn't a big fight, neither was the Mayorga fight.caldo2025 wrote:Cotto's star power has never been brighter than it is right now and I find it hilarious. He's had two fights in the last 25 months and beaten a punching bag in Geale and an old broken down HOF boxer in Sergio. How in the world have you all fallen for this one? It's the same Cotto that has lost every big fight he's been in. The same narcissist that refers to himself in the third person in interviews while explaining why he doesn't need boxing.
I'm not buying the Roach thing. It's the same Cotto, they just redesigned the box he comes in. Luckily, i'm not too high on Canelo either. He too is overrated in my opinion so maybe these two fabricated phonies will put on a good show. They should have promoted this fight as De Nada in Nevada because the winner of this fight still stinks.
I wonder what will be said if he beats Canelo??? Let me guess, he beat a Canelo that was overrated and had a gimme victory vs Lara and blah, blah blah.

Well, i'll applaud the fact that you didn't find anything in my comment racially offensive YET, KBB. Mosely was 36 years old at the time when they fought and it was post Steroid admissions so he was hardly the younger chemically enhanced boxer that defeated DLH. Was your second piece of proof really the Sergio fight? You are clearly showing your lack of boxing knowledge with that comment because even Sergio's Mom has said that anyone could have beaten Sergio that night as he had trouble walking leading into that fight. Cotto won that fight by just signing the contract.Undefeated49-0 wrote:He won in the big fight vs Mosley, won in the big fight vs Sergio so I wouldn't say he's lost every big fight he's been in, only the biggest (Manny and Floyd). I just explained about how I feel about Canelo as well above but i'm sure you didn't read the actual post you're replying to. If you did, you'd see that I think that both guys are overrated. Though i think both guys are overrated, I still think that it will be the biggest career win for both guys and acknowledge that it is a very big and important fight. It will probably go down as a historical fight in fact and I don't have any problem with that. The timing is right. Boxing needs a big fight to make up for the mess of fights that disappointed in 2015. So i'll give full credit to the winner and even the loser if this fight shapes up to what i think it will be. On paper, it looks to be an absolute war and classic.

Re: Who you rooting for? #CottoCanelo
I´m rooting big for Canelo---only because I bet on him to win by decision at the Mexican sports books. Odds I copped were +110.
Overall, Canelo is about a -350 favorite to win straight out right now at the sports book here in Tijuana.
TJ has a big fight atmosphere going on right now, about 4 hours before the bout. Just about every bar and restaurant will be showing the match and you wont have to fork over $70. For the price of a $3 caguama (quart beer) you can watch a full night of fisticuffs.
Wouldn´t want to miss the overlooked Miura-Vargas super featherweight championship. Will probably steal the show as an all-out war. I see Canelo-Cotto as more of a strategic boxing match with occasional toe-to-toe slugging.
Miura-Vargas is a hard fight to pick but I´m going with the Mexican Olympian. He opened as the +120 underdog but Vargas is now the -150 choice here in Mexico.
Just have a feeling that Vargas might be a future star. If so, he´ll begin to wear down the very aggressive Japanese fighter and take a points verdict.
