DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?

Post by koolkc107 »

I don't know if this will even be mentioned for Fight of the Year.

But it was very competitive and very entertaining to watch.

Degale clearly won, but Bute made a huge statement about not being done quite yet.

With Ward and Froch gone, Bute clearly is still a player at super middle.

I think it is a candidate, although it won't win.

Not sure it was quite good enough to be a FOTY contender, but it was definitely entertaining.

I was watching the Kings vs. Blackhawks and switching between the Chilemba and DeGale Fight's. Good action in both fights. I thought Bute looked pretty good considering his age and ring wear. FOTY I guess I can't say didn't see the whole fight. What I did see DeGale vs. Bute was pretty good.

What it showed was how over-rated De Gale really is :bag:

This was a great fight and should be on the short list but nothing compares to the Vargas fight.

I tell you what, that Granados/Imam fight was pretty awesome too. Granados down early in the first and then proceeds to win every round after it and get the stoppage. That fight was the shiit.

Honestly i wasn't impressed with this bout, I don't think it will come close to the FOTY.

Funnily enough I've met him a few times when I was living in San Diego. Nice chap. Terrible Blackjack player.

Is DeGale over rated?

Who over-rates him? And how high do they rate him?

Never seen anyone have him in a top 10 p4p list, or even declare him a great champion or next big thing.

DeGale looks to have a solid chin and the improvement in his boxing ability is good, he moves well on his feet and landed on the run even if some of the punches lacked power they were scoring accurate shots.
He does get caught clean and has a habit of not being able to completely dictate or control incoming while being backed up and it affects moves but it doesn't last long and he rides his way out of it.
His chin and natural ability prevent him from being on the other end of an attack rally with clean landing punches, he'll take a some but get his way out of it.
His confidence may seem in question because every time I see him it looks like it's his first time on tv or in the media, he just like that but when he hits the ring he goes into a strict boxing style, modified of course for the audience who demand a kick off but a pure bred boxer all the same.
He looked like he matured and back to back wins over Dirrel and Bute looks ok from where I'm sitting.

Could you include Imam vs Granados as a contender? Sure was amazing getting up from a heavy ko to force the next big thing to quit round 8.
