DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
I don't know if this will even be mentioned for Fight of the Year.
But it was very competitive and very entertaining to watch.
Degale clearly won, but Bute made a huge statement about not being done quite yet.
With Ward and Froch gone, Bute clearly is still a player at super middle.

I think it is a candidate, although it won't win.

I thought it was but I had drunk two pints of margarita while watching the fight before.

Not sure it was quite good enough to be a FOTY contender, but it was definitely entertaining.
Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
I think clev v fonfra fight of year so far
Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
I was watching the Kings vs. Blackhawks and switching between the Chilemba and DeGale Fight's. Good action in both fights. I thought Bute looked pretty good considering his age and ring wear. FOTY I guess I can't say didn't see the whole fight. What I did see DeGale vs. Bute was pretty good.
Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
Not a strong FOTY contender for me but still a good one.
Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
hm it was like Matthysse - Provodnikov .... Very good action fight, reason why we love boxing. But FOTY need something more

What it showed was how over-rated De Gale really is

This was a great fight and should be on the short list but nothing compares to the Vargas fight.
I tell you what, that Granados/Imam fight was pretty awesome too. Granados down early in the first and then proceeds to win every round after it and get the stoppage. That fight was the shiit.

Honestly i wasn't impressed with this bout, I don't think it will come close to the FOTY.koolkc107 wrote:I don't know if this will even be mentioned for Fight of the Year.

Funnily enough I've met him a few times when I was living in San Diego. Nice chap. Terrible Blackjack player.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Antonio Margarita? That's a heavy load brother.Taansend wrote:I thought it was but I had drunk two pints of margarita while watching the fight before.
Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
It was ok but nowhere near a fight of the year.
Competitive for sure.
Competitive for sure.

Is DeGale over rated?campfire wrote:koolkc107 wrote:I don't know if this will even be mentioned for Fight of the Year.

Who over-rates him? And how high do they rate him?
Never seen anyone have him in a top 10 p4p list, or even declare him a great champion or next big thing.
Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
DeGale looks to have a solid chin and the improvement in his boxing ability is good, he moves well on his feet and landed on the run even if some of the punches lacked power they were scoring accurate shots.
He does get caught clean and has a habit of not being able to completely dictate or control incoming while being backed up and it affects moves but it doesn't last long and he rides his way out of it.
His chin and natural ability prevent him from being on the other end of an attack rally with clean landing punches, he'll take a some but get his way out of it.
His confidence may seem in question because every time I see him it looks like it's his first time on tv or in the media, he just like that but when he hits the ring he goes into a strict boxing style, modified of course for the audience who demand a kick off but a pure bred boxer all the same.
He looked like he matured and back to back wins over Dirrel and Bute looks ok from where I'm sitting.

Re: DeGale vs Bute: FOTY candidate?
Could you include Imam vs Granados as a contender? Sure was amazing getting up from a heavy ko to force the next big thing to quit round 8.
