"British boxers are doing a great job of embarrassing the nation with their behaviour.

Even scarier, this comment is the 3rd highest rated with 55 up votes.

Just shows how far away boxing is from the mainstream now and how little the general public now know about the sport.

Now there's a really well-timed, loaded and interesting question!

A British heavyweight champion of the world - who has caused a major upset - but is also controversial and outspoken and in a sport the BBC has just about does the bare minimum to cover as a publically-funded broadcaster that needs to represent all interests.

They messed-up with Calzaghe big time before doing a U-turn and I have a feeling they'll do just enough not to make themselves look stupid by shortlisting Tyson for SPOTY but finding a way to give some safer contenders more air-time and a better plug as well.

Tyson winning the thing gives them such a huge, late in the day headache; it shows that they are niche players who have ignored the pro game for years and he's also not their cup of frothy media-land latte!

I kind of hope Tyson wins it and the BBC realises that having Ben Dirs blogging/tweeting and Mike Costello at the back of the media enclosure is not nearly enough and that having a British lineal heavyweight champion matters.

Just actually seen the short list and Fury is on it. Least he has been given some recognition. I know it has nowt to do with boxing but the cure for insomnia that is Mo Farah is also on the shortlist! Really! 'Farah' and 'Personality' are words that shouldn't be in the same sentence. He seems to be extremely disliked by the middle class media pricks and there really isn't too much about him that warrants it. Dare I say they have a problem with him being a traveller who simply don't give the slightest eff as to what they or anyone like them thinks?

I don't know why, but that comment from the politician really made me laugh. Although of course if young gay men do start committing suicide as a result of Fury's aggressive style, I will feel appropriately bad.
