BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
Some scary comments on the 'have your say' BBC Sport article for the Fury fight.
"British boxers are doing a great job of embarrassing the nation with their behaviour.
Anthony Joshua is the only man who can reverse some of the damage done to British boxings reputation!
Wladimir may be a 'boring' fighter but at least he has a certain class whilst doing his job."
Even scarier, this comment is the 3rd highest rated with 55 up votes.
Just shows how far away boxing is from the mainstream now and how little the general public now know about the sport.

Wrapping his hands without a member of the camp present. You stay classy, Wlad (I like the Ks, but they've taken gamesmanship to the next level).danamba7 wrote:Some scary comments on the 'have your say' BBC Sport article for the Fury fight.

That Ben Dirs who writes for BBC Sports can't stand Fury, and doesn't hide it. Nobhead.
Re: BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
The BBC can hum on my scrot! Bunch of corrupt, toff tossers. He should actually be front runner for their 'SPotY' away but I won't hold my breath! It'll go to a curler or polo player. Bollux.

Now there's a really well-timed, loaded and interesting question! The BBC can hum on my scrot! Bunch of corrupt, toff tossers. He should actually be front runner for their 'SPotY' away but I won't hold my breath! It'll go to a curler or polo player. Bollux.
A British heavyweight champion of the world - who has caused a major upset - but is also controversial and outspoken and in a sport the BBC has just about does the bare minimum to cover as a publically-funded broadcaster that needs to represent all interests.
They messed-up with Calzaghe big time before doing a U-turn and I have a feeling they'll do just enough not to make themselves look stupid by shortlisting Tyson for SPOTY but finding a way to give some safer contenders more air-time and a better plug as well.
Tyson winning the thing gives them such a huge, late in the day headache; it shows that they are niche players who have ignored the pro game for years and he's also not their cup of frothy media-land latte!
I kind of hope Tyson wins it and the BBC realises that having Ben Dirs blogging/tweeting and Mike Costello at the back of the media enclosure is not nearly enough and that having a British lineal heavyweight champion matters.
Re: BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
Just actually seen the short list and Fury is on it. Least he has been given some recognition. I know it has nowt to do with boxing but the cure for insomnia that is Mo Farah is also on the shortlist! Really! 'Farah' and 'Personality' are words that shouldn't be in the same sentence. Quorn eating bore!

Lewis Hamilton will probably win SPOTY, I'll be voting for Tyson and if he doesn't get in the top 3 at least it will be a disgrace

The bbc would never give SPOTY to Tyson Fury, I would literally bet my life on it.

Re: BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
Is it me or is there a slight hint of racism towards Fury in a lot of these reports?
He seems to be extremely disliked by the middle class media pricks and there really isn't too much about him that warrants it. Dare I say they have a problem with him being a traveller who simply don't give the slightest eff as to what they or anyone like them thinks?

The obligatory womens footballer is in there too, I've only heard of her because Tyson attempted to send Deontay Wilder some abuse on twitter and tagged her in it by mistake.

Re: BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
Here's an extract from an article in The Guardian which probably sums up why the BBC may not want Fury to win Sports Personality of the Year:
During a fractious press conference, Fury’s father John challenged the assembled media to bow to his son while Fury insisted he would not shy away from expressing his controversial views – including likening homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia – even though he was now world champion.
Shadow cabinet minister Chris Bryant claimed he would not celebrate the British boxer’s win because, he said, Fury’s “aggressive style” could lead to “young gay suicides”. But when Fury was asked whether he would take more time thinking before opining on certain subjects, his response was direct and emphatic.
“Listen, if people don’t like it change the channel,” he said. “That’s all I got to say. I will be dictated to by nobody. I’m the man. And if anyone can prove me wrong their chance is inside a boxing ring. You don’t like, change the station. You don’t like it, don’t take photos. You don’t like it, don’t print it in your newspaper. Do I care? Not really.”

I don't like Fury, but I don't let that get in the way of my happiness at having a GB World Heavyweight Champ, and respecting the man for his achievement.

I don't know why, but that comment from the politician really made me laugh. Although of course if young gay men do start committing suicide as a result of Fury's aggressive style, I will feel appropriately bad.Stevieb8006 wrote:fury is now responsible for young gay suicides. the country's gone mad.Boxerbeetle wrote:Here's an extract from an article in The Guardian which probably sums up why the BBC may not want Fury to win Sports Personality of the Year:

Maybe Fury kept to jabbing because if he were too aggressive there would've been more young gay suicides.
Perhaps he's actually a hero?

Don't know you know, nobody has ever won it 2 years on the trot. What's the current obsession with cyclists anyway? Ennis and Farah can piss off too, getting their mugs everywhere especially that drug cheating Quorn salesman. Re: BBC Sport Comments On Fury Fight
If it's the public vote that wins SPOTY , there is no chance of Fury winning because until saturday night 95% of the population didn't even know he exsisted , very few casual fans don't watch boxing on channel 5 and even less will buy a ppv event , he is not a household name and after seeing his tirade on the bbc news half an hour ago, guess what.............. he doesn't care !

Stupid award anyway 99% of sports stars have no personality, if it really was based on personality he'd definately be in with a shout because he's got loads of it.

You've just seen his rant on BBC News...he'll quickly become a household name after Saturday night. He's the heavyweight champion of the world!
