Purse bid for Fury-Glazkov IBF bout set for Dec. 11 - but fight unlikely to happen
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id...eads-purse-bid
Tyson Fury is not going to have long to savor his upset victory against Wladimir Klitschko.
In addition to claiming the lineal world title, Fury also claimed Klitschko's 3 major sanctioning organization belts, and ownership of those belts comes with mandatory defense obligations.
Fury was ordered by the IBF on Monday to next face Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov, and the camps were given 30 days to make a deal or a purse bid would be ordered. However, on Tuesday, Main Events promoter Kathy Duva, who represents Glazkov, informed the IBF that they were unwilling to participate in negotiations with Fury promoter Mick Hennessy and requested an immediate purse bid, which is allowable under IBF rules - although the fight is unlikely to happen.

I hope the fight happens, though I don't see Glazkov as having anything more than a punchers chance - he's been given too many gifts in close fights and it's time he was dealt a loss. Not sure Fury stops him, though.

I can see the belts splitting up now Klit has lost them.
The sanctioning bodies might actually enforce their mandatories.
They were loath to do it when Team Klit was king, because they paid them handsomely and called the shots.
I'm not saying Wlad ducked any, it's just the logistics of defending 4 mandatories every 9-12 months. Just not possible if the letter if the law of the organizations is followed.
I don't know if Tyson is that interested on holding on to the IBF belt when he has a big money rematch against Wlad.
I guess Duva could just be after some step aside money. Seems to be a lot of that going on.
More likely, they want to know if they can force it before the rematch, or if they are going to go the Wilder path.
Glazkov loses either way. Too short. No Power.
(I did however pick Wlad to beat Fury)

Why is the fight unlikely to happen? I thought Glazkov had been sitting around doing dick-all for months because he was waiting to take advantage of his mandatory status.

According to their rules, Fury does not have to fight the IBF mandatory challenger until November 2016. Newly crowned IBF champions have a year before they must defend their title.

Glazkov was also supposed to fight wilder. Not sure if that will happen now that he has been named mandatory. If fury vacates would it be glazkov-martin for the vacant belt?jujigatame wrote:Why is the fight unlikely to happen? December 11th? Like next week? Say what? The headline of this thread doesn't relate to the story, and the story appears to no longer exist anyway.

Do the alphabet groups actually follow their own rules?SteveO wrote:According to their rules, Fury does not have to fight the IBF mandatory challenger until November 2016. Newly crowned IBF champions have a year before they must defend their title.

It doesn't matter now anyway.
Glazkov will have to wait for the winner of Fury-Klitschko II.

Minor Events refused to negotiate anything with Fury to force him to drop. They want none of him. They'll push for a vacant title fight and I hope Glazkov finally gets handed the L he's deserved several times over now.

Main Events has made some really shameful moves lately. First they push for the Kovalev/Stevenson purse bid and pull out of the fight when they don't win it. Now they maneuver Glazkov into an IBF mandatory (thanks to a whole lot of dodgy judging) and are demanding the fight to happen immediately because they know Fury can't or won't go for it and they can fight for the vacated title against a much easier opponent.

Come back to bite them in the arse though, next available challenger for the vacant title is now Wladimir Klitschko.jujigatame wrote:Main Events has made some really shameful moves lately. It sucks to see all of Wlad's work become fragmented. Fury could stay busy if he wants to and keep them.
I think Fury vs Glazkov is a good match if it happens.

So if I read right Flask of passed on a title shot with Wilder? I was looking forward to that fight.
