Guys, I hate doing this, but after reading the Daws v Nieto thread, can I point out two things...

1. A Doctor cannot stop a fight. He can only ADVISE the referee to do so. If the ref doesn't want to listen to the doctor, he doesn't have to

2. There is no such thing as a 9-9 round for a point deduction. Someone HAS TO have 10 points. Therefore, it would be a 10-10 round. For example....a boxer is winning a round easily, which would usually be scored10-9 in his favour. He then has a point deducted..... That would be scored as a 10-10 round, not 9-9.

Sorry, but number two is a load of horseshit. Loads of fights have had 9-9 rounds. The 12th round of Amir Khan vs Lamont Peterson springs to mind straight away. :TU:

Don't get why anyone cares if it's 9-9 or 10-10. Makes no meaningful difference either way.

The ref's kicked the towel out before now.

Foreman/Cotto seems to be an obvious one.

Briggs/Vitali? That seemed to go on forever, most people thought it should have been stopped a few rounds before the end.

I don't care what Khan/Peterson was scored as, you CANNOT officially have a 9-9 round!!

The round is scored as it normally would be. 10-9 the point deduction is taken at the end of the fight.

I think your definition of the word cannot is slightly different to the one in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Ten-point Must System
Judges use the 10-Point Must System in professional bouts. This system assigns ten points to the winner of each round. The loser receives nine points for a close round, eight points if he was knocked down or dominated, and seven points if he was knocked down twice. If a round is even and neither boxer was knocked down, both boxers receive 10 points. If each boxer was knocked down once, the knockdowns are disregarded and the winner of the round receives 10 points, while the loser receives nine points.

So, as I stated earlier "somebody must have 10".......I'll give you a more conclusive example when I get home from work!

I've posted a picture of an official world championship scorecard, which clearly shows all three judges scored it 9-9. Accept you're wrong and let's move on. :OhYes:

I don't know mate. It seems pretty clear on the scorecard I posted. There are dozens of other examples.

I guess scoring conventions may vary by area and organization, but I've always thought a round like that was generally to be scored 9-9, with the 10 point must meaning that the winner must receive 10 points barring a point deduction.

To be equally pedantic, Mickey Vann did not disregard a doctors advice - the corner threw in the towel and Vann threw it out and let the fight carry on.
