Joushua Passed His First Test
He got hurt, but came back to dominate and stop a live opponent. He needs fights like this. He needs rounds. He needs to develop. He by no means disgraced himself last night. He will have learnt so much from it and will have a lot to work on and improve on.
Anyone who thinks he's a bust after last night is full of shit. Remember when Haye got beat by Thompson, or Bruno got beat by Bonecrusher, or when Wlad ran into Ross Purity? Were they finished? No. They came back stronger and wiser, which Joshua will do.

Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
Yup, same as when Fury looked shite against McDoughnut, it's all part of learning.
Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
Fury LOST to McDonaught in essence - at least Joshua KO'd Whyte. If McDermott was to return, I wouldn't mind seeing him vs Whyte.

It's a bit of a leap to say just because X, Y and Z did it therefore AJ will do so too. Why won't he be like a Price or Pele Reid, when there was an early red flag and later the fears were confirmed? It's impossible to tell.

Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
I didn't say he was going to be a world champion like the others I mentioned. AJ had a learning fight and came through it, fair play to the fella.Tuan_Jim wrote:It's a bit of a leap to say just because X, Y and Z did it therefore AJ will do so too. Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
A lot of people seem desperate for AJ to lose.
Agree with all the points made in OP. I think he will learn from his fight that he doesn't have to come out all guns blazing and we will see a more mature and confident Joshua in the future

A definite learning experience for Joshua & like David Haye said, AJ passed his first gut check.
In a perverse way, Joshua needed that rocky moment.
He must have been thinking that this boxing lark was a piece of pi$$ & last night would have made him realise it is anything but.

Passed it with a few minors and one major.
As I have said elsewhere I wouldn't trust him with his current trainers

Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
I agree, the things people thought were his weaknesses when he started ie defence and footwork haven't improved in 14 fights. What are they doing with him?keithmoonhangover wrote:I agree with that.lillywhite14 wrote:Passed it with a few minors and one major.![]()

Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
Pro career, wins a lot of fights without getting hit due to lack of ambition from opponents. First time he takes a shot as a professional he reacts badly and spends a couple rounds looking flat, tired, lacking in confidence and with no pop in his punches.
Took him about 2 and a half rounds to shake off the affects of the first punch he has taken as a pro.

The reaction to the shot was too alarming for me. He reminded me of Pele and Pricey, resistance-wise. Whyte was so crude and sloppy he was unable to follow up what was an fairly colossal target momentarily defenceless before him.
Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
Yep. That was the first shot he has taken as a pro and he reacted badly. Credit that he held it together, recovered and got the win but Whyte was too deficient in skills to take advantage of Joshua who was ripe for the taking for the next round and a half at least, or at least was ripe for really putting him under serious pressure and cracking him openTuan_Jim wrote:The reaction to the shot was too alarming for me. Reacted badly? He was momentarily stunned by a perfect left hook. Recovered in five seconds. Paced himself a bit thereafter which is understandable, fought intelligently, stepped it up, won every round bar one and nearly decapitated the guy in the 7th, finishing the job with precision. What more can you possibly ask?
I have a feeling this test is all Joshua needed to prove he's going all the way because I don't think Whyte is a slouch. Time will tell, but if Whyte isn't too ruined by this he could come again.

Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
Yes, in my opinion he reacted badly. This was not a guy who just took a hard shot and you there was no noticeable reaction, he stumbled, legs went for a moment and he showed that he can have his senses scrambled. He did not recover in five seconds at all. The rest of the round he threw weak arm punches and had no pop or spring and looked heavily affected.Riddick Blowe wrote:Reacted badly? For the next round or two he looked tired, unsure, slightly hesitant and not at all the same fighter as the opening round with less impact and snap in his own punches.
My opinion and how I read it. Bookmark our difference of opinion here and revisit in the future when I am sure he gets KTFO

I think a lot of the critisism is because he is with matchroom and people want him to lose because of that,
They hate the fact it was ppv etc

I will be sure to do that, when hell freezes over. I strongly advise you to place your balls firmly into Joshua this instant. The man is the real deal. None will stop him.tobyh5 wrote:Bookmark our difference of opinion here and revisit in the future when I am sure he gets KTFO

I am sorry Senor Blowe, but I am having to withdraw my helmet from AJ's stomach acid. The reaction to that punch was too much of a turn off.Riddick Blowe wrote:I will be sure to do that, when hell freezes over. I strongly advise you to place your balls firmly into Joshua this instant. Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
His trainer is Rob McCracken, but they have to hide it because he works with the GB squad, Sims only really takes over on fight night or when the media are around.handsofstone wrote:His trainer?? tell me lily how many of your kids are on Towielillywhite14 wrote:Passed it with a few minors and one major.![]()

Re: Joushua Passed His First Test
I thought he recovered excellently too,his boxing for a few rounds after the 1st was poor by his standard but that looked more to do with him trying to land another Suzy Q,he got it together soon after and was outboxing a battleworn Whytekeithmoonhangover wrote:I agree with everything you say here. The emotional experience he gained will be as valuable as the physical, due to the amateur history there SHOULD be no other fighter who gets under Joshua's skin the way Whyte did,AJ's got a cruel streak but he's still a pretty cool customer who has the mindset to improve on his mistakes
And while im at it can people stop whinging about Anthony being a bad guy trying to act nice, better that than other way around you bunch of cynical sods
