He got hurt, but came back to dominate and stop a live opponent. He needs fights like this. He needs rounds. He needs to develop. He by no means disgraced himself last night. He will have learnt so much from it and will have a lot to work on and improve on.

Anyone who thinks he's a bust after last night is full of shit. Remember when Haye got beat by Thompson, or Bruno got beat by Bonecrusher, or when Wlad ran into Ross Purity? Were they finished? No. They came back stronger and wiser, which Joshua will do.

I didn't say he was going to be a world champion like the others I mentioned. AJ had a learning fight and came through it, fair play to the fella.

Agree with all the points made in OP. I think he will learn from his fight that he doesn't have to come out all guns blazing and we will see a more mature and confident Joshua in the future

I agree, the things people thought were his weaknesses when he started ie defence and footwork haven't improved in 14 fights. What are they doing with him?

Pro career, wins a lot of fights without getting hit due to lack of ambition from opponents. First time he takes a shot as a professional he reacts badly and spends a couple rounds looking flat, tired, lacking in confidence and with no pop in his punches.

Took him about 2 and a half rounds to shake off the affects of the first punch he has taken as a pro.

Yep. That was the first shot he has taken as a pro and he reacted badly. Credit that he held it together, recovered and got the win but Whyte was too deficient in skills to take advantage of Joshua who was ripe for the taking for the next round and a half at least, or at least was ripe for really putting him under serious pressure and cracking him open

Yes, in my opinion he reacted badly. This was not a guy who just took a hard shot and you there was no noticeable reaction, he stumbled, legs went for a moment and he showed that he can have his senses scrambled. He did not recover in five seconds at all. The rest of the round he threw weak arm punches and had no pop or spring and looked heavily affected.

For the next round or two he looked tired, unsure, slightly hesitant and not at all the same fighter as the opening round with less impact and snap in his own punches.

His trainer is Rob McCracken, but they have to hide it because he works with the GB squad, Sims only really takes over on fight night or when the media are around.

I thought he recovered excellently too,his boxing for a few rounds after the 1st was poor by his standard but that looked more to do with him trying to land another Suzy Q,he got it together soon after and was outboxing a battleworn Whyte

The emotional experience he gained will be as valuable as the physical,due to the amateur history there SHOULD be no other fighter who gets under Joshua's skin the way Whyte did,AJ's got a cruel streak but he's still a pretty cool customer who has the mindset to improve on his mistakes

And while im at it can people stop whinging about Anthony being a bad guy trying to act nice,better that than other way around you bunch of cynical sods
