I dislike the fact like Hamilton is a tax exile in Monaco yet wins British awards like this.

To be fair if the government wanted to help themselves to half of my earnings I'd eff off too, it's funny how if you want to become a sportsman the government does nothing to help you yet if you become a success from sport and make lots of money they can't get enough of you. I'd move, probably not to Monaco because it's such a sterile place, in fact I'd stay where I am, 20% income tax limit here.

You do know Hamilton does pay tax to the UK as well another dozen countries he races in? They don't report that though, he just doesn't pay the 50% rate in the UK because he doesn't spend enough time there.

always liked him seems a decent fella, this confirms it. And what he says is precisely what I always say to people who complain about tax, one of my mates earns nearly half a million a year, and always whinges about his tax bill, I pointed out that when they calculate his pay, they are aware of how much tax he pays, and that he earns way more money than he needs anyway.

Completely agree. Sports Personality used to be an enjoyable watch when they had the rights to show a lot of sporting action. I would have thought that the total action shown yesterday probably totaled less than five minutes. Everything was a five second clip of someone about to jump into the pool, about to play a golf shot, or a boxer during a press conference. That award ceremony may actually be half decent if it was on Sky. They have the rights to a lot of the action, and would pay for those that they didn't have. People like Johnny Rea won't be recognised by the general public because there isn't an opportunity to watch him that often, and when a programme like this comes along which can help to raise the profile of some of our sporting heroes, they don't take it.

It's not unusual for that to happen. Flintoff won it back in 05. The difference now is that the ashes were on 4, it had been a while since they had been won, it captured the nation's attention because it was fornicating great cricket.

A lot of people have been really into this davis cup, it's sold out for every day, it's been on the BBC and murray sacrificed himself to win it. It's not been a walkover and has seen him play at least 9 sets (don't actually think it was this few at all).

The people always moaning at murray are usually the ones saying he has no personality but were appalled that murray could dare say that he wanted Argentina to beat England!

Watching it tonight was often cringeworthy. It's a dated, pointless award that needs putting out to pasture. Very 'eurovisiony' at times, and about as prestigious too.

Nowadays it's for sports that are favoured by the BBC and it shows big time in the coverage given to each contender during their profiles.

The Davis Cup is a third rate competition in a second rate sport. Athletics is BBC's baby because no self respecting designated sports channel would bother with such nonsense, hello, the Olympics finished over three years ago, get over it!

Sky should start their own version, it would be ten times more entertaining that's for sure!

Some of the decisions by the 'expert panel' left me wondering why the BBC actually bothers with sport and if they really know what the fans actually want to watch and hear about. Just about the only decision they got vaguely right was Dan Carter.
