Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
Just read Fury actually came 4th and was only 8,000 votes away from 3rd. He also got over 3 times as many votes as Rutherford
Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
Well said. If I was earning the many millions that Lewis Hamilton was earning I'd be more than happy to pay my fair share and still have millions left in the bank. I remember Jonathan Ross on The Last leg doing a great little rant about tax avoidance. HE recalled when he first saw the tax bill when he started earning serious money, and thought 'bloody hell'. Then he looked at what he had left and thought, 'fair enough'.Supremo wrote:Some of us have a bit more or expect a bit more loyalty to the country that educated us, provided us with health care and the people round about us. If your sole drive in life is how much money you can have/save over anything else then it's a bit sad.banjo wrote:To be fair if the government wanted to help themselves to half of my earnings I'd eff off too, it's funny how if you want to become a sportsman the government does nothing to help you yet if you become a success from sport and make lots of money they can't get enough of you. I'd move, probably not to Monaco because it's such a sterile place, in fact I'd stay where I am, 20% income tax limit here.G0mez wrote:Defo voting him.
I dislike the fact like Hamilton is a tax exile in Monaco yet wins British awards like this.
Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
You do know Hamilton does pay tax to the UK as well another dozen countries he races in? They don't report that though, he just doesn't pay the 50% rate in the UK because he doesn't spend enough time there.Supremo wrote:Some of us have a bit more or expect a bit more loyalty to the country that educated us, provided us with health care and the people round about us. Actually I've just realised what a crock this was, this was held in Belfast and the World Superbike Champion Johnny Rea - an Ulsterman - didn't even get a nomination. ![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)
Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
i don't get how andy murray can win it when individually he has had a terrible year compared to other years of his. He won it because the davis cup is on the BBC.
If winning a team event as a key player is worthy why no cricketer like joe root who won the ashes and was declared No1 batsman in the world?
Cant stand the SPOTY event. it just sucks and smacks of political correctness,

They did mention him briefly while summarising some of the achievements for 2015 in smaller sports.banjo wrote:Actually I've just realised what a crock this was, this was held in Belfast and the World Superbike Champion Johnny Rea - an Ulsterman - didn't even get a nomination.

Yeah he went up in my estimation. Pretty funny as well, his rant starts from about the 4-minute mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr5DrHyoixYjamesmcdonnell wrote:Did he, fair play to him if so.Dixonian wrote:Well said. Still sad that you can be recognised for playing football just because you've got tits or jumping into a sand pit yet you can't get nothing more than a brief mention while being successful at one of the most dangerous sports in the world.Batley18 wrote:They did mention him briefly while summarising some of the achievements for 2015 in smaller sports.banjo wrote:Actually I've just realised what a crock this was, this was held in Belfast and the World Superbike Champion Johnny Rea - an Ulsterman - didn't even get a nomination.

Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
always liked him seems a decent fella, this confirms it. And what he says is precisely what I always say to people who complain about tax, one of my mates earns nearly half a million a year, and always whinges about his tax bill, I pointed out that when they calculate his pay, they are aware of how much tax he pays, and that he earns way more money than he needs anyway.Dixonian wrote:Yeah he went up in my estimation. Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
Completely agree. Sports Personality used to be an enjoyable watch when they had the rights to show a lot of sporting action. I would have thought that the total action shown yesterday probably totaled less than five minutes. Everything was a five second clip of someone about to jump into the pool, about to play a golf shot, or a boxer during a press conference. That award ceremony may actually be half decent if it was on Sky. They have the rights to a lot of the action, and would pay for those that they didn't have. People like Johnny Rea won't be recognised by the general public because there isn't an opportunity to watch him that often, and when a programme like this comes along which can help to raise the profile of some of our sporting heroes, they don't take it.banjo wrote:Still sad that you can be recognised for playing football just because you've got tits or jumping into a sand pit yet you can't get nothing more than a brief mention while being successful at one of the most dangerous sports in the world.Batley18 wrote:They did mention him briefly while summarising some of the achievements for 2015 in smaller sports.banjo wrote:Actually I've just realised what a crock this was, this was held in Belfast and the World Superbike Champion Johnny Rea - an Ulsterman - didn't even get a nomination.

I didn't watch it, did they mention the world speedway champion Tai Woffinden?Batley18 wrote:They did mention him briefly while summarising some of the achievements for 2015 in smaller sports.banjo wrote:Actually I've just realised what a crock this was, this was held in Belfast and the World Superbike Champion Johnny Rea - an Ulsterman - didn't even get a nomination.

They did mention the speedway and said something about someone. If he is the best then perhaps it will have been him who they quickly talked about.milpool wrote:I didn't watch it, did they mention the world speedway champion Tai Woffinden?Batley18 wrote:They did mention him briefly while summarising some of the achievements for 2015 in smaller sports.banjo wrote:Actually I've just realised what a crock this was, this was held in Belfast and the World Superbike Champion Johnny Rea - an Ulsterman - didn't even get a nomination.

Cheers, I dare say it was him who they mentioned. He's from Scunthorpe and won the world championship for the second time this year.Batley18 wrote:They did mention the speedway and said something about someone. It's not unusual for that to happen. Flintoff won it back in 05. The difference now is that the ashes were on 4, it had been a while since they had been won, it captured the nation's attention because it was fornicating great cricket.nitro5912 wrote:i don't get how andy murray can win it when individually he has had a terrible year compared to other years of his. A lot of people have been really into this davis cup, it's sold out for every day, it's been on the BBC and murray sacrificed himself to win it. It's not been a walkover and has seen him play at least 9 sets (don't actually think it was this few at all).
The people always moaning at murray are usually the ones saying he has no personality but were appalled that murray could dare say that he wanted Argentina to beat England!
Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
Got to say I agree with Lillywhite...and I actually used to love the show and look really forward to it.Watching it tonight was often cringeworthy. It's a dated, pointless award that needs putting out to pasture. Very 'eurovisiony' at times, and about as prestigious too.
Nowadays it's for sports that are favoured by the BBC and it shows big time in the coverage given to each contender during their profiles.
The Davis Cup is a third rate competition in a second rate sport. Athletics is BBC's baby because no self respecting designated sports channel would bother with such nonsense, hello, the Olympics finished over three years ago, get over it!
Sky should start their own version, it would be ten times more entertaining that's for sure!
Fury should have withdrew and said he couldn't be bothered with such a load of shite
I liked that Sinfield got in there, mainly because it effed up BBC's little athletics love in
Lineker's pathetic, lame quips and Balding strutting around the place like a haughty public school head girl annoyed me; as did their creeping and blatant fixation with winning the crowd over by throwing gongs at the locals made it a very tough watch indeed. What a surprise AP McCoy got deified!
Some of the decisions by the 'expert panel' left me wondering why the BBC actually bothers with sport and if they really know what the fans actually want to watch and hear about. Just about the only decision they got vaguely right was Dan Carter.
And yes, Sky should think about offering an alternative.
Murray to his immense credit actually looked slightly embarassed I thought..."ermmm, I won a team event and not a Slam. But thanks!"
As a bit of a boxing nut - he can't be all bad - I'd like to think Andy would have wanted to see Tyson win. I actually reckon he knows that heavyweight champion of the world is the much bigger deal.
Re: Vote for Tyson Fury as the 2015 BBC SPOTY
This is weird but I saw a foto of Andy Murray today with this award and he reminded me of..........the late Sir Henry Cooper! It's the chin! And both men are part of a 4some who won the Sports Personality twice. The picture was in the Daily Mail.....sorry I can't share it on this device!
