I think I agree, Stevie - boxing in particular a popular fighter can wrangle a shot against a very ordinary championship holder. If a boxer beats the best in the division for a title he should get a gong, maybe.

Why can't they be given awards as well as successful sports stars?

I could go on all day about this. Why should anyone who gets paid to do a job get awarded for doing that job?
Do bricklayers get an OBE for 30 years service to bricklaying?
I start a rant about this every year and the wife batters me, but I just think it's ridiculous.
Don't let it bother you. The whole honours thing is just a nice reminder of the class divide. Massively outdated.
When I learn of people refusing any honour offered to them by the establishment, my respect for them shoots up.

Of course it isn't always about honouring lesser people, the toffs love giving their own pals an honour or 3 whenever the chance arises. Check out Jacqueline Gold, daughter of David Gold, a man who just happens to donate huge amounts of money to the Tories!
Me too.

I like the Queens household staff, ladies in waiting etc who get the appropriate gong every 5,10, and 20 years a just reward for such hard and difficult work in trying conditions with little other reward.

As this is a boxing website can I just point out that I totally agreed with Henry Cooper getting knighted. He had a long and distinguished boxing career ( a pro for 17 years) and while not our best heavyweight, he was always a gentleman. In later years through his golf he raised a lot of money for charity , everybody liked him , and he did wonders for the image of boxing when there were people in parliament who wanted it banned.
Sorry again to criticise Frampton, but how on earth does this compare. I know Carl isn't being knighted, but, really he's just a beginner compared to Cooper.

My pal Glyn Rhodes got an Mbe the other year but that wasn't for services to boxing In particular but for raising money for children's hospital etc and spearheading anti-bullying and boxing against racism campaigns backed by the local press. I can't think, unless they're playing the mcguigan,Protestant/catholic angle what he's done for this award? And to be fair when Barry was boxing it was still bang on top over there so it did mean something.

It's not really a criticism of Frampton mate, it's not like he's asked for this. I reckon he'll be either a bit embarrassed about it, or will not give a toss either way.

You never know - a person needs to be nominated for these things (the application is very specific and there are companies out there who specialise in writing recommendations and boast a decent success rate).

I don't get too excited about these things, but I do wonder why (say) Frampton got this award for services to boxing and someone like Dennis Law had to wait until now to get his (and his may be for services to charity rather than services to football).

Absolute load of balls these 'honours' and they mean less and less with every cash for honours scandal that occurs each time. The sooner the population rejects them and the arseholes who hand them out, the better the country will be.

KBE, CBE, OBE, MBE - if they set themselves up as sanctioning bodies they would be more honourable

Anyone, including every poster on this forum, can nominate anyone else for a UK honour. It does require a quite signifant effort though - the nomination form itself is about 14 pages long and at least two other people have to write letters of support. In Carl's case someone has obviously made this effort.

Barry probably had to ask for extra paper with the amount of praise he heaps on Frampton.
