Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?

You said Spence will definitely win. Sounds like a mismatch to me. And I agree on paper that is quite a mismatch. The Revival wrote:I don't know it's a mismatch. That's why they fight the fights Lancenix. I said Wlad would definitely beat Fury. I thought Caballero would definitely beat Jason Litzau. I thought Chris Arreola would definitely beat Bermane Stiverne (the first time).
Thinking that's what is going to happen, doesn't mean that's what's going to happen. No matter how strongly you think it.

I'd love to see that but until he actually beats some one I see no point to him. 20 pro fights and he will have zero quality wins even with a win over Algeri. Algeri got a gift against Provodnikov and took a beating vs. Pac man and Kahn. 26 years old and slowly tugging himself along. Until he starts beating people what is the point?

Who has Khan ever dropped by hitting someone on the chin? He drops people by body shots. Pac didn't drop him with thunderbolts and Pac hast dropped anyone for about 6 years.Tanzio wrote:He's been in with The Provoglodyte, Pac and Khan without being stopped. Algieri has been in with tougher, faster and greater boxers than Spence. This is a good test for Errol that he should pass impressively. But Algieri is not an easy out.
Algieri doesn't have a bad chin but I wouldn't say he has a good one.

So you was originally agreeing with me that he doesn't have a good chin? As in not above average.Tanzio wrote:But he didn't stay down.Larrylefthook wrote:Huh? Spence has a good body attack also among other attributes. If Spence can stop him I will be impressed. There must be a reason why Khan, Thurman, and other "top guys" want no part of Spence.

Where did I ever say that he has more than a decent chin at that level?Larrylefthook wrote:So you was originally agreeing with me that he doesn't have a good chin? As in not above average.Tanzio wrote:But he didn't stay down.Larrylefthook wrote:

The Provoglodyte, Pac, and Khan all hit Algieri with shots that would stop someone with less than a decent chin at world level.
Re: Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?
If you can go 24 rounds with Pac and Provo and end up on your feet, I would say your chin is just fine, and above average. I think Spence will show he is better than anyone CA has fought. I think Spence will prove eventually that he is the best welter out there. Strong statement I know, but we will find out in the next year or two. If he gets to be Brook's mandatory, it will be interesting to see if Brook fights him or moves up.

I know folks are going to give me all kinds of crap for saying this, but it is true:
Spence is technically better right now than those three (Provo, Pac, Khan) were when they fought Chris.
When Errol gets Algieri hurt, you can bet that will be the beginning of a certain end.
Kid knows when and how to finish.
Algieri will be him serving notice as to exactly who he is: Floyd and Pac's heir.

Haha are you kidding me? Did you watch the Khan fight? Khan has never stopped anyone on the chin. Watch the Pac fight and your see Pac didn't drop him with massive shots.
Re: Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?
All I said was that Algieri kept getting up. If Algieri did not have a decent chin at the highest level he would have been KTFO by all three, no matter their KO % at the top level.Larrylefthook wrote:You seemed to be disagreeing with me when I had a problem with someone describing him having a good chin...Tanzio wrote:Where did I ever say that he has more than a decent chin at that level?Larrylefthook wrote: So you was originally agreeing with me that he doesn't have a good chin? Ramming Speed was closer to being KTFO by The Provoglodyte than Algieri has been in any of those three fights.

With Provo, it was clear he missed the chance to finish Chris because of his lack of skill, not Chris's chin.
With Manny, I think Pac was trying to get work in and really didn't care to take any risk at all-
if the stoppage came it came but he wasn't going to press it and risk anything.
And, I don't think Khan came anywhere close to seriously hurting Chris, nevermind stopping him.
And yes, I agree that Provo had HeadQuarters in more trouble than he had Chris.
But that is more about the respective shots Provo got in than the respective chins of
Tim and Chris.
Algieri was boxing Provo and took one flush shot, one he saw coming as it was a counter to his own shot.
It put him down, he got up and was till hurt then got put down again by an uppercut
that squeezed through his gloves, I think. He got up, boxed better and avoided any more serious trouble.
Continued to get hit solid though. Lost in my book, but the judges gave it to him.
In Tim case, Bradley got hit by a barrage of clean shots he left himself open for by trying to brawl with Provo.
He absorbed many more hard shots from Ruslan than Chris did, and perhaps the fight should have been stopped.
But since it wasn't, it gave Bradley a chance to come back, which he did in such a savage and brutal fashion that
Freddie Roach admitted after the fight to seriously contemplating throwing in the towel because
he didn't want to see Ruslan continue to take the beating he was getting.
Trust me when I tell you Algieri's chin is nowhere near the class of Tim's.
Re: Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?
I don't disagree with much of this beyond the fact that what saved Algieri v The Provoglodyte was Algieri's intelligent choice to take a knee rather than stand and fight, early. From then on Algieri controlled that ring. I think that it could have gone either way and I had no problem with Algieri getting the nod in that fight.koolkc107 wrote:I am not so sure about some of this Tanzio.Tanzio wrote:All I said was that Algieri kept getting up. Ramming Speed did not have the same ring smarts early v The Provoglodyte and he was actually saved by the ref early on. I also thought that fight was very close, thanks to the KDs, and I would have had no problem with the Russian getting the nod, although I do think that Tim shaded him, with that early assist from the official.

Knowledge or actual boxing I would take you either way buddy. See that is the difference between you and me you like to talk boxing but you would never dare get in the ring. Even with headgear. Well yeh I saw he got up he did it many times, thanks for reminding me. I guess you think Khan has a decent chin too as he kept getting up after taking Garcia's shots, and those were more powerful then the ones CA took in his KD's.Tanzio wrote:All I said was that Algieri kept getting up. Re: Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?
Nah Khan's chin is weak, but he definitely showed a lot of heart against Garcia. He was out on his feet the entire 4th round, and made it about 2 minutes in. That's pretty astonishing really. He was fighting on pure instinct.Larrylefthook wrote: Well yeh I saw he got up he did it my times, thanks for reminding me. He showed a lot of heart to get through spots against Maidana too.
Re: Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?
I do think that Khan is too game for his own good at times. He needs to learn to take a knee. He reminds me a lot of Hearns when he would get clipped. They keep their feet for too long after their heads are in the land of twitch. By that time there is no mind to think "take a knee."Larrylefthook wrote:Well yeh I saw he got up he did it my times, thanks for reminding me.
