Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Hearn said last night Crolla vs Barroso is all but a done deal in an IFL interview.
Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Crolla against Barroso May 7th Manchester is defo.
Regarding Burns, I keep hearing rumours of Zepeda, if they make that one as perhaps an eliminator for one of the titles I don't think anyone could really argue with that fight, it's certainly one I would like to see.

Agreed, it makes a lot of sense, especially if Ricky is trying to get that WBO Lightweight title back. Zepeda is ranked number 1 contender by the WBO & Burns is ranked number 2.GlobalBox wrote:Regarding Burns, I keep hearing rumours of Zepeda, if they make that one as perhaps an eliminator for one of the titles I don't think anyone could really argue with that fight, it's certainly one I would like to see.
(as can be seen here: http://www.fightnews.com/rankings-2)

Wow Just been announced Burns/Di Rocco for the WBA REGULAR title at light-welterweight sometime in May, Nurse/Limond also on the bill apparently in Glasgow, just the date that needs sorting. Did not see that coming got to be fair, he won't have a better chance to win another world title.

I know its a paper title but what exactly has Burns done at 140 to deserve a shot at a title?
Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Normal service resumed from the WBA.
Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
I know they are a circus man! In theory if Theophane beats Broner for their super dooper title then we could have an all British fight to decide who is the all conquering WBA boss manexpe wrote:Normal service resumed from the WBA.
Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Nothing. Neither has Di Rocco either. WBA are shambolic! Eddie must be BFFs with one of the gaffers. Not complaining though as its a good chance for Burns to get his career back on track and a win would lead to a couple of decent pay days which he must need going by recent reports.ste1983 wrote:I know its a paper title but what exactly has Burns done at 140 to deserve a shot at a title?

Yeah fair point not really Ricky's fault the WBA are a joke, I like Burns good luck to him.Stuarty30 wrote:Nothing. Neither has Di Rocco either. WBA are shambolic! Not a fan of the WBA regular title but if it leads to some more meaningful fights and decent paydays for Ricky then he is right to go for it.
Some decent domestic fighters for him to defend it against too, if Limond beats Nurse that could lead to an all Scottish headliner in the summer.

Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Dont know a thing about the opponent but naively in my mind that makes it a good opportunity for Burns. Will be good to have a good night of boxing in Glasgow again no matter what title is on the line.
As for Stuarty30 who mentioned Burns being such an active amateur, if my memory serves me correctly he managed an amateur record of over 100 fights. Ive heard he actually won 100 and only lost a few but dont know how true that is. Also despite not having a reputation as a puncher in the pros he was well known for getting people out of there early i the ams. All the boys from the Barn were and still are very active in the amateurs with Rab Bannon the trainer there being one of the few old school trainers remaining. He lives for the sport and breeds fighters to be the same from an early age.
Anyway, I think I will treat myself to some good tickets for this upcoming show as it may be the last of its kind for a while in Scotland if Burns doesnt produce the goods.

Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
At this point Zepeda is a complete myth, other than 2 rounds against Flanagan he's done nothing and fought no one. Don't see why he's being so highly rated off absolutely nothing and getting talked about in relation to big fights.lefty wrote:Zepeda will beat Burns ass at this point.GlobalBox wrote:Crolla against Barroso May 7th Manchester is defo.

Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
I've watched quite a few of his fights. He's actually pretty skilled aswell as a big puncher. The fight with Flanagan was nip and tuck before the injury with Terry just edging it. Also, it's more based off how Burns has looked in his last I don't know how many fights. He's looked poor. I can't actually remember his last truly world class performance.expe wrote:At this point Zepeda is a complete myth, other than 2 rounds against Flanagan he's done nothing and fought no one. Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
I think you're correct there mate. Burns had a lot of fights at amateur and had a big reputation. Can't remember what weight he fought at. When I was younger the two big names that always came up were Burns and Craig McEwan on the amateur circuit. McEwan was outstanding as a youngster. I remember Rab Bannon well. Some character lol. Was Burns not trained by his old amateur trainer up until the Johanson defeat then he went with Billy Nelson?Emmseegee wrote:Dont know a thing about the opponent but naively in my mind that makes it a good opportunity for Burns. Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Think you may be right there mate but I cant be 100% sure about the timing of his move. He definitely stayed with Bannon after turning over for a while. Personally I would like to have seen Rab Bannon share a bit more of the journey considering how much he has put into boxing over the years but cant realky argue with Rickys decision to move after what he went on to achieve.

Isnt he fighting Jose Zepeda in a final eliminator for Flanagan's belt ?
Re: Big announcement regarding Ricky Burns?
Twitter talk is Di Rocco for the fake WBA title.
Makes me sick actually as it will be branded a world title fight. Though they were clearing up these bollocks belts...... Abomination to the sport they are.

Ah yes, the battle of the Alexandre Lepelley conquerors.
Bogus title aside it wouldn't be a bad match-up.

More titles = more sanctioning fees, can only see the other bodies doing the same to be honest, soon we'll have 60 world champs in the UKNaandrew wrote:Twitter talk is Di Rocco for the fake WBA title.

Joke fight. Both are euro level at best and always have been. Burns hasn't won a relevant fight in over 30 months and now fighting for a world title unreal
