This is a really good post and the more he thinks about this the bigger and bigger chance this fight has of not happening.dookus wrote:Didn't Wlad come out firing in round 4 of the first fight after his corner told him needed to put it all on Fury? How did that go?
Wlad simply doesn't know how to deal with a tricky fighter who has reach and stamina on him, and who is not at a speed disadvantage. When he tried to engage in the first fight Fury was up to the task. He is not going to turn himself into a proper pressure fighter at 40 years old.
Even in his younger, more offensive-minded incarnation, he beat guys up at a distance using speed and reach, not head movement and inside fighting. Fury is just a bad style for him, much more so now given the age gap. Barring a bomb landing or Fury spending camp at Nando's, the rematch goes the same way.

This has nothing to do with it. I admit Wlad is always in shape, and probably works harder than most. And for the record - I have no hate against any fighter, I do not care much what they are doing outside the ring (and anyway if I would, Wlad seems to be decent guy personally... I really wish him best).Lancenix wrote:Why are you hating on their pay? This never makes sense to me when people do this. If you think it is so easy get in the ring and try it out. I mean, I know TV are paying most of it, but that means that either TV management keeps making completely wrong business decisions for years (as this is not the first awful fight by Wlad)... or there are actually somewhere people willing to watch it.
But, coming back to boxing, there is only limited money there... if TV stations pay ~50 mln $ for unwatchable fights (like for example Fury-Wlad was for me), this simply means that there will be no money left for potentially better bouts.
Re: will there be a tyson-wlad II?
Oh that is not true at all. If there are good fights and people want to see them the money will be there. To say this fight is sucking money from another fight just is not true.gregor wrote:This has nothing to do with it. I admit Wlad is always in shape, and probably works harder than most. June 4th. Fury vs. Klitschko in Austria. This is tentative. Finals details being finalized.
Re: will there be a tyson-wlad II?
I actually thought the first match was quite intriguing. Of course it won't be lauded and a thrill a minute fight, but it was a really tactical and cagey affair. There was a real contrast of styles between the two, and you could really see how Klitchko was struggling to get close to Fury, due to the awkward stance, good movement and long range of his jab.
Truth be told, I cannot remember the last 'Super fight' which lived up to expectations, so by that reckoning, we probably shouldn't have another one. But we will, because they drive the sport, and create the hype.
I look forward to the next fight because the shoes are on the opposite feet now. Klitchko has nothing to lose, he knows what it feels like to go 12 rounds with someone like Fury. He's a smart guy, and would extremely doubt that the fight would go the same as the last. I still expect Fury to come through on points, but it be closer this time. Klitchko needs to get on the inside, and throw longer combo's. Easier said than done though.

Re: will there be a tyson-wlad II?
I've no doubt in my mind that the fight will happen. I just think that both sides are playing hard ball in the negotiations & ironing them all out is going to be tough. I just hope they get the deal done soon so we can see them fight before the summer is over.
As for the contest itself, I believe we'll see Wlad knock Fury out in the rematch if he's truly motivated & mentally 110% into it. Which he most definitely was not back in November.
That Klitschko showed up in physically good shape like he always does because he's such an absolutely dedicated professional. But, other than showing up in good condition, he didn't really show up to fight. I believe he was unmotivated, much like he was in his previous fight with Bryant Jennings. Plus, he was dealing with rather severe personal issues in regards to his wife's battle with post-partum depression & I don't think he wasn't to go away to training camp for six weeks while this was going on.
I don't think he was focused on the task at hand & he had no one in his camp who could get him on track mentally like a Manny Steward could. Now, I don't want to disparage Johnathan Banks here too much, but let's be honest. Wladimir hasn't really looked good in any of his bouts since Steward's passing aside from the Pulev fight.
I'm sure Banks is just fine as far as putting Klitschko through the paces in the gym & getting him into shape, but I don't believe that he has the ability to get inside Wlad's head & get him mentally & emotionally ready.
So, why do I think Fury II will be different?
I believe that Wlad has a lot of pride & I think his legacy is extremely important to him. I know he won't want to be remembered for going out with a second desultory points loss to Tyson Fury. So, he'll be very self-motivated to regain the titles & even the score vs Fury. And, with just a few technical changes & a whole lot more offensive output, I think he'll do just that.
Via KO in about round 8.

Re: will there be a tyson-wlad II?
Good posts the last two, especially SweetV, who I agree with. I think fight two will be the opposite of fight one and a very exciting slug fest with both men landing hard punches and getting staggered, and then I too pick Wlad by KO...and then of course will come the big #3 playoff in England.

A compelling argument, but at 40 - will he be able to pull the trigger quick and often enough.sweetviolenturge wrote:I've no doubt in my mind that the fight will happen. One of the things you see with older fighters is that they become increasingly hestitant, because as their reflexes decay, people are able to counter them. Saw it with Holyfield and Mosley as they got older. They just can't quite commit to their shots and so they become far more beatable.
I suspect this is what will happen here again.

exist there. literally. it would be absurd to
stage a fight of this magnitude in a country
where no one would show up for the fight.

seriously, austria never staged a world
title fight in any weight class except for
one relatively obscure one twenty years

If it happens as has been reported by CBS and Yahoo sports I want your BIG FAT butt right back here to eat your crow that is all I am saying. If not I'll come and find ya. "Not everything that pops on the internet is true." Really dummy? I did not know that. Like I said if it gets done I want your fat butt back on this thread. Your logic for the fight not being there is just dumb. June 4 Austria Klitschko-Fury. The honeymoon is nearly over for both of them.
No warm ups straight into it as long as it happens this year.
Yes they will rematch.
