Post by Looking On »

Ive not got much to say myself, to my knowledge i only boxed one who turned pro, in my first amateur and lost KO1  vs Curtis Valentine.

Although im sure there will be some on here who have some good names on their resume...

I remember Nick McDonald, he was really good - I thought he'd do well as a pro, didn't he have had hands?

There was a poster on here who'd seen Curtis Valentine box as an amateur and he said he'd scored some really big knockouts - he wasn't surprised at the Aston win.

As far as I know Valentine had somewhere in the region of 30 amateur bouts. 25 wins with 23 of those by way of knockout. I may got the figures a little wrong and I'll ask him next time I see him but those numbers are not far out.

Can't remember many names. Jamie McLevy I'm sure as a schoolboy. Mate of mine fought Craig McEwan as a senior am and Ricky Burns as a junior am. Probably more but they names stick out.

I boxed nigel Wright in the north east counties abas.He just boxed with my stable mate for England at Kulala lumpur. He was red hot I think he went on to win double aba championship. Mally Maciver from Yorkshire in the Yorkshire aba final. He won central area belt. The reverse to the question I boxed Frankie Gavin as a pro who was an outstanding amateur.

Nigel Wright was a good fighter, why did he retire? He seemed to hit hard with every punch and was very well balanced, he knew how to box alright.

Yeah very well schooled he seemed to glide in and out as an amateur very good foot work. He finished on medical grounds just before fighting for the British title

Yeah... He's very modest with his achievements bizarrely. I introduced a non-boxing person to him and mentioned the Benn and Watson win and he made a joke about me getting their names wrong. Great fighter, jacked it in young
