I think Karo could have been an all-time great welterweight (on the level of guys like Fitch and Shields) but he had substance abuse problems and never kept himself in top shape. He's still only 33 years old which is kind of amazing.

Just had a quick look on wiki. Some mad names on his record win or lose. Noticed the Diego Sanchez fight won FOTY 2006. I actually cant remember that fight so might try and find it on YouTube later. Hardcases them 2.

Karo was a punk, though. Pickin on Nate when he was pretty much a little git.

Karo was supposed to get a title shot against Hughes in 2005 but he got injured and never made it back to that level. Hard to believe he was only 23 at the time. What a waste.

Yeah. That season was a good one. A lot of memorable fighters came from that season. Nate Diaz, Manny Gamburian, Gray Maynard, Joe Lauzon, Corey Hill, Cole Miller, Matt Wiman...

What's your thoughts on Judo in mma Jujigatame? Have there been guys other than Karo? I tought he was a prick when he picked on Nate but they are probably same age. Karo had a lot of talent but seemed to have a huge chip on his shoulder.. Shame about his substance problems, he had some great throws.

Yes Dan he was Mannys cousin. That was the best season for me. I have not watched many more since.

Watching that again, what an asshole Karo is. I'd have loved to have seen Nate hit him one.

NYC would be huge for 200 but then again the first NYC card will be huge regardless. 200 is nailed on for Vegas because it's the first UFC event at that new 20,000 seat arena.

I think that's what turned me off a bit. No need for the drunk fighting when you can do it in the cage...didn't Chris Leben do something similar? I really disliked that guy. I'm sure the next two seasons they tried to out do the crazy drunk shit from season 5 and I just never watched it again.

I see Karos been KOd a couple of times in first round. Nate would punk him these days :D

There have been some good seasons since. The season with Matt Brown was a good one... Same with the season with Junie Browning. The HW season with Kimbo was a good one as well.

Yeah. Just read that Lorenzo is shooting for a NY show late in the year. Possibly 2 before the end of the year. Then 4 fights per year in the state there after. :bag:

Yeah series 8 was good. Junie was a mad man. Also had Bader, Kingsbury, Tom Lawlor, Krzysztof Soszynski and Efrain Escudero.

I remember that idiot Lightweight David Kaplan saying he can take a punch from anyone, even the LHWs and convinced Tom Lawlor to take a free shot. Of course, he ended up snoring.

Possibly. It's just up the coast from me. 7-8 hour drive. I'm mainly happy to see it legalized in such a historic state.

I think it can be a very good base. Clinchwork is so damn important in MMA, guys like Randy Couture have shown you don't need to base your entire stand-up grappling game on single and double legs. I think the reason you don't see as many judoka as wrestlers is because MMA is still mostly popular in the US and in the US judo simply isn't a very popular pasttime.

Don't forget, Fedor was more or less a judoka.
