Who was more impressive: Kell Brook or Andre Ward?

Post by Freedom2013 »

Ward beat a fringe contender IBF mandatory by UD.

Brook beat a fringe contender IBF mandatory by KO 2.

Who was more impressive?

Also take into consideration Ward resorted to illegal tactics (hitting after the bell, holding, and a deliberate low blow thrown with bad intentions). Brook did not need to foul.

Brook no question. Brook needs to start trying to unify. If he is being avoided then he needs to get that out there. I would love to see him fight Garcia. But once again you have to take a lot of things in consideration there.

They were both impressive.

I have been as critical as any (objective) person of Ward. He was masterful tonight. Bizier does not compare to Barrera, and you know it.

I am glad you have been critical of Ward to make up for the HBO announcing team which had cheerleader uniforms on tonight with AW across their chest. Their straight rooting for ward was actually embarrassing. I thought I was back in Europe again because that is how every fight is announced over there.

That is what I had to do tonight around round 6. Roy Jones was so annoying.

What is funny is that Ward is one of the best (most objective) boxing commentators.

Ward is objective I agree. I find him a touch boring and not as good as Bernard Hopkins or Virgil Hunter. I really like Virgil Hunter as far as US announcers go.

Good point. I really enjoy listening to both BHop and Hunter. Virgil actually gives Khan a relatively decent chance (30%) v GingerHead, IMO.

I didn't watch Brook, but ward has to be the answer based on the opponents.

Virgil gives his own fighter that low of a chance? That's horrendous heading into a fight, though I agree with those odds, but it doesn't get more objective than that.

That makes me feel good about Kahn's chances seeing as he is fighting at his highest weight and moving up a class. I respect what he has to say.

You feel better about Khan's chances because his trainer gives him a 30% chance? Man, your stupidity challenges your cowardice.

I did not communicate that clearly. Hunter did not say that. I think that Hunter as a trainer gives Khan a 30% chance.

About the same, actually.

Sullivan Barrera: Boxrec #23 at 175 going into the fight.
Kevin Bizier: Boxrec #20 at 147 going into the fight.

Do you consider welterweight a weak division? :maybe:

Bizier has faced better competition as a pro and is younger than Barrera. Barrera is not on any top ten list I've seen (Ring, Boxrec, Transnational).

He is downplaying Kahn's chances. I think we can all admit that on paper it is not a 50-50 fight. So where does it fall? 60-40? Even that is a little high. So I take the 30-70 and I am saying he is downplaying here knowing that kahn can outbox him. Kahn is not gonna sit there like Kirkland did. We know that. Will he run as much as Lara? No. Can he put up a better fight than Cotto? i think so and Cotto had that fight much closer than the HBO announcers gave him credit for. If Kahn boxes and moves I know he can win that fight.

Nice numbers. You've got me there, but Barrera is more competitive according to my eye test. Bizier would have little to no chance v Porter. Barrera would give Fonfara all that he could handle, imo.

I was hoping until the fight with Ward was signed Kovalev would get Barrera for a nice KO win.

Sergey wouldn't need to hit after hearing the bell, deliberately head butt (good that the ref tonight warned Ward about it) or use a deliberate low blow.

Ward makes your vagina gush in a horribly bad way. Seek help.

Both were poor opponents. Ward schooling Barrera proves nothing, he's a continental fighter, nothing more. He shouldn't have been in the same ring with Ward, joke of a fight.

Bizier too for that matter, how the IBF could put him in an eliminator... facing Donut Dan who is also shit is baffling. Bizier isn't even top 20.

The IBF seem quite adept at digging up manure to put in front Brook!

In such a talent rich division, this is quite a remarkable achievement.

Yeah, looking at the rankings and leaving out the ones who are belt holders there are still a good number of fighters who were more deserving of an eliminator than Bizier.

Just realised it wasn't Donut Dan Ion who he faced in the eliminator to face Kell, he'd actually lost to Ion twice before...

What were the IBF thinking handing an eliminator to a guy who couldn't beat a fighter Kell beat in like 5 rounds? The guy he did face in the eliminator was the definition of padded record too... his best win being a split decision over Prescott.

Bizier turned up for a payday. The fight was meaningless.
Barrera tried but got outclassed.

Brook did say after the fight that he had to fight his mandatory or be stripped and that he wants to fight wbc champ Danny Garcia or the winner of Bradley pacquiao. He didn't rule out Khan either. He admitted he doesn't understand the IBF putting Bizier as mandatory.

Also on another note Billy Joe Saunders after the Eubank fight said he offered Eubank near a million for a rematch but he refused and that he wants a GGG fight stating he doesn't know how good he really is until he fights GGG.

Of course Hunter will give Khan a chance, its his job. Like he said Khan had a good chance to beat Floyd if Amir raised the level of his game. (and added the level would have to be above a level he has never been at before)

To me it is about 90%-10% in Canelo's favor since Khan said his power has tripled!, he is faster!, and claims his chin is much stronger! Even 90-10 is too much chance for Khan. I think he has about the same as a snowball's chance in hell.

As far as who was more impressive, I expected Brook to KO the guy that was beaten twice by a guy Brook KO'd. I thought Ward would win, but didn't think he would dominate like he did. Ward to me was more impressive.
