Eubanks' lack of power a direct cause of Blackwell's injuries?

At some point the ref needs to take control himself, not saying the ref was at fault, I thought he was decent, but when a ref asks a fighter "do they want to go on" at some point the ref should ask himself the question "is he receiving enough clean shots to damage himself in the long run" rather than relying on corners to throw the towel in

Re: Eubanks' lack of power a direct cause of Blackwell's injuries?
Indeed Chudinov, Sullivan, Blackwell are all seriously hard men noted for their durability but do you think any of them would have taken that many punches from someone like Golovkin? (rhetorical question that we all know the answer) Eubank just doesn't have that one punch stoppage power like a GGG (Andy Lee even) that's why people are going rounds with him taking prolonged beatings.
If you look at the way GGG punches it's utterly effortless his shots just have a natural snap and impact, Eubank seems to use raw muscular strength, he tenses up before throwing them and ever so slightly winds them up (perhaps that's why he flags after an onslaught) I don't really think Eubank is a 'puncher' as such, just very strong physically.

But lets not forget it is a sport and the purpose is certainly not to inflict maximum harm. Combat sports are the only place you can do these things, that would otherwise be considered a crime in any other environment. I'm ok with that and ok with the idea someone might get accidentally hurt and injured from time to time but the idea that someone would intentionally prolong a beating instead of just trying to win the fight is disturbing.
As for Tyson and other greats saying the same, that's hardy a justifucation.

If Kovalev has killed a man in the ring and purposely prolonged a beating to inflict harm on another opponent he didn't like, out of spite, he's not a very nice man
As for his hard upbringing, that has absolutely nothing to do with being a bad bastard.

Re: Eubanks' lack of power a direct cause of Blackwell's injuries?
Eubank is definitely not a puncher. He loaded up on those uppercuts massively and they pretty much all landed cleanly, but Blackwell never particularly looked in trouble or like he would go down. Golovkin & Kovalev have stopped people with jabs ffs. No doubt Eubank has sting in his punches, but a puncher he is not.
Re: Eubanks' lack of power a direct cause of Blackwell's injuries?
I thought Loughlin told the doctor to call it off tbh. If you watch it back it looks as if the doc is going to let him go on til Vic has a word. That's how I thought it looked anyway. I wouldn't blame anyone for what happened last night. It's a horrible outcome but because of past tragedies there are safer precautions in place nowadays. 20 odd years ago we might be having a very different conversation.Hinchy70 wrote:Stuarty30 wrote:Yeah maybe but it was a bit of a strange stoppage. Id rather be knocked out by a jab than take them HADOUKEN uppercuts from Eubank every 20 secondsBoxerbeetle wrote:Eubank is definitely not a puncher. I wouldn't be surprised if Eubank shouts "FINISH HIM" every time he throws a shot. His mouth is normally wide open after allStuarty30 wrote:Street fighter was awesome though wasn't it? There's bareknuckle boxing for that kind of bloodthirsty fan, I take it you hate the Andre Wards, Rigondeaux's of this world? Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit. You can want to hurt someone as much as you like but if you take 6 shots to land one then you're not going to get any far with a bit of spite because of a poor childhoodreggaereggae wrote:Let's agree to disagree!davie wrote:reggaereggae wrote:

I personally love all types of fighter. I love guys who come in with all the self confidence (as long as they back it up), I love guys who bring a bit of intensity, I love guys who take things in their stride. I suppose certain people just do whatever works for them. Doesn't make them bad or good.Hinchy70 wrote:There's bareknuckle boxing for that kind of bloodthirsty fan, I take it you hate the Andre Wards, Rigondeaux's of this world? Aye it was out of 'what everyone wants'. I was only 10 in 1994. My mammy got me it waiting for the bus. Bit out of character. We never got much in way of luxuries as children, that's why I remember it so vividly. I remember that controller lol.reggaereggae wrote:Really?
