Maybe he can go for a unification bout and end up holding the GBC, WBE, WBN and WBB titles?

Actually, here's a question - has any fighter actually tried to "unify" these minor titles? I know you would need about 20 fights a year just to get the mandatory defences out the way, but think about it, whoever tries can market themselves as some kind of "giant-killer" who is able to defeat all these so-called "world champions".

If you think that boxing fans would never be gullible enough to fall for this, well, 700 people at the Columbia Club thought they were watching a genuine title fight.

Good question force10, the answer, I think, is sadly not. For reasons that pass me by RJJ actually went on an extreme diddy title fest during his reign, he had the WBF, NBA, IBA as well as the big three, or big four if you include the WBO, or big five if you include the IBO

IBO is the most credible and least corrupt but that really means Jack shit to anyone.

NBA and IBA have captured the American diddy title market. WBF I'd actually put #6, originated in Australia but a moderately global title. WBU is an absolute joke. No rankings, no mandatories, no opponents with a pulse. A glorified SN scaealectrix set. IBC a slightly dark horse, helped immensely by Tomaz Bonin winning their heavyweight title last night :TU:

The WBE, WBB, WAA make that previous lot look like the seven wonders of the world. WBB heavy champ is Sidon, WAA champ is Pukall. The two fought last night. Sidon the victor. Yes :TU: On the line **I'm doing this in a Stuart Hall voice by the way** the German heavyweight title. WBB and WAA titles, not on the line. Evidently, too much at stake.

WBE, their heavy champ I think last defended the title in 1842, and has now been retired for 6 years or something.

All the G's (GBC, GBU, GBetc) are pitiful.

Watch out for the U's though. With functioning websites and Mitch Green amongst their champions, these are the ones to watch for.

Erm, sorry, I went off on one there

Not at all Jomo, in fact very a inciteful look into the world of alphabet Boxing. I have a couple of questions, firstly i think Tye Fields held the WBE Heavyweight title? I am sure i have a fight of his versus Sherman Williams and they mention his auspicious reign as WBE holder. Also didn't Mitch Green win the highly regarded WBS belt? Of course the WBS would probably be more reliable if they removed the W off their name, just BS seems about right and finally...what on earth does WAA stand for? I thought B as in "Boxing" was the cornerstone of any self respecting world organisation? :o

Thank you for your kind words Steve. I am happy to oblige with your queries.

The WBE is the sanctioning body formally known as the WBS.

Current WBE champs:

Super heavy - the renound David Johnson (3-16-4)
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=074181

Heavy - Charles Davis (16-8-1)
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=028953

Unfortunately for Sherman Williams, he has never held a WBE title. Tye Fields, however, has won the prestigious WBE continental Americas super heavyweight title against Julius Long.

Mitch Green won the (inaugural no less) WBS heavyweight title in 2002. Alas, the reign was short. Although in an exciting turn of events, Green has been "installed" as the UBO champion.

"Green will be obliged to make a defence of the title before the end of the year, and according to manager Scott Hirch plans are that Green will box a few tune-ups and then defend latest in December. Welcome to the UBO family."

WAA stands for the World Athletics Association, and is the famous one where some guy made it up when his son wasn't given a WBC ranking or something. The incentives for WAA champions are huge.

"after defending the WAA World Title, the Champion will be granted after petitioning, an opportunity to fight the IBU World Champion in that weight class provided he relinquishes the title after being granted such a fight. This gives the Champions of the WAA incentive to train, fight, and move up to the next level and not be content to rest on their "laurels"."

I LOVE IT :TU: :TU: :TU:

states, I have absolutely no time on my hands whatsoever. Unfortunately I really am a stupid sod who does nothing he should and everything he shouldn't. Today for example:

TO DO LIST: Get household shopping for the week; take girlfriend to Ikea and fein interest in tablecloths; aid elderly neighbours in the uplift of new furniture; research and speculate in the market of horse racing; begin impending honours essay on structure and agency (whatever that is); visit parents and return atmospheric table lamp borrowed approx. 4 months ago; complete Tesco clubcard form; sort socks (at least two weeks worth, and remember to throw out the ones with the silver stripe as one has a hole in); pick up perspex frame (commissioned to hold the complete Bolton Wanderers home fixtures 1964/65) from Kenny the chippy); drive girlfriend to train station.

The list could go on endlessly. As you can see, I don't have the time to be pissing about romonating on the particulars of the dingly dell pan-pacific heavyweight champion. Inneviatably, however, my days always unfold as they did today:

DONE LIST: Awoken by the cat at 5am after 2 hours sleep. The cat is, to my mind, in fact a fornicating leopard. Despite living on the first floor of a street in a relatively dense urban area, this cat manages to venture out of a night, and come back with mammals of varying sizes and states of death. This morning it was something approaching an otter. It is left to me to remove afforementioned otter and give the cat food (since the cat doesn't actually eat the sodding otter, but somehow this merits it half a ton if Iams a day (which is a dried cat food about 6 times more expensive than caviar.) Have a hangover, and after varying swaying motions along the hall, I settle down with a pot of tea and 20 embassy red. Various vagabonds are left from last night and are sprawled accross the sitting room, so I raise my morale by throwing various things at them (such as otters) and putting news 24 on at a high decible level. This really continues for the next 6 hours, save for a trip to the newsagents, and butchers on various sites, racing post, boxrec, IBO forum (obviously, worth a look) bbc sport, various e-mail accounts (necessary for my arms trading business), ebay and the like. Girlfirend leaves house at midday hangover-free, which arouses my jelousy, but on the plus side she'll go to Ikea herself as long as she gets the car.
I am left to entertain the vagabonds, and we watch the Eastenders omnibous taped last weekend, and discuss the going at Doncaster.
Eventually throw everyone out. Traipse down to the bookies. Have only one race planned, but end up staying for three hours for no particular reason. A swift half of lager shandy and then home. Shower toute sweet, as I'm a stinking wreck.

And so on. So plenty to do, just don't do it. I'm afraid I've turned this all in to an unnessasary day in the life. Hopefully this has been of benefit to some of you, who have followed my posts and have wondered therefore how I got that way

I absolutely love this thread...the UBO is a great name for a title. It reminds me of UFO, coincidence? I think not, maybe we could have our first 7 fingered, oval headed martian installed as a mandatory challenger? A box off with Mitch Green maybe...watch this space.

I am saddened that Green is no longer WBS title holder, i am sure he saw winning the title (in a massive match with Danny Wofford) as a huge step towards the rematch with Mike Tyson he so craves.

And finally you are correct Jomo it was Julius Long and not Sherman Williams i saw in that titanic title matchup for the WBE belt. I was confused and momentarily startled by the magnitude of the occasion it went to my head...it won't happen again

Great idea Steve, I think a UFO world title is well overdue. All the world champions could be Top Secret and Classified, with the governing body denying all knowledge of any of it's champions, rules and contenders.
Bit like the WBO in fact, at least the rules bit is.

Title fights could take place in the middle of a dark empty woods, with no witnesses, apart from maybe a startled lumberjack of two.

Round of applause for Jomothepure for some excellent research :TU: :TU: :TU:

 My apologies Freiheit, I was getting mixed up with the GBA (Global boxing association, which only prclaims champions anyway.)

is the gba the German national organisation then, or is there more than one? For example, is this GBA regional title the same one that would give out, for example, Sidon's German heavyweight title?

There are 3 german federations.
BDB: The big one, EBU member, the one that has Sidon as champ
GBA: 2nd largest, not that old Its the federation that holds the WBE, EBF GBC fights, but not WAA and WBB
WTBF: Sanctions some female fights.
To make its more confusing, the Sauerland cards are sanctioned by the austrian federation, FVA (FVA is EBU member)

Damn that's complicated.

I take it the GBA is viewed as more of a token belt-spinner to up-and-commers (rather like the WBU) whilst the BDB (I'm guessing boxe and deutche are in there somewhere) controls the credible long standing titles?

So they GBA actually control both the WBE and GBC, as in the alledged world bodies? Why do they need 2? And if the control them, why the need for the EBF? If they have a WBE European title, why bother with the EBF title and vice versa?

(I'm not even going to move onto Sauerland and why he gets sanctioning from the Austrian authoriies, my head is like an anvil right now (metaphorically speaking)

 The comedy continues.

In yet another productive day, I have tracked down a new website of the World Boxing Federation. Now, as far as I know, this was the name of the WBF (as in Audrey's title) before they changed to "Foundation" a couple of years back.

Anyway, suffice to say, these people are even more of a joke than Audrey's WBF.

Bash Ali (you know the Nigerian cruiserweight who's about 80-2 with a strong of unknown opponents? Well he's the champ.

BUT...guess who tops the world rankings at #1?

of course, it's...........

TONY BOOTH!!!!!! :TU: As you'd expect from a former world title challenger :o

BDB is the "real" sanctionbody in germany. But under german law everyone can in theory make their own sanctionbody as long as the obey certain rules, ie you have to be 16 or older to turn pro.
GBA's titles are not much worth. They dont control WBE and GBC. Ie Mitch Green is/was WBE superheavyweight champ.
EBF is another federation like EBU, they sanction fights in different countries in Europe (mostly Austria and Hungary) They only award titles.

Sauerland broke up with BDB because he thinks Universum have too much power in BDB but he still wants he cards to be supervised på an EBU organization so he made a deal with FVA in Austria. FVA have lost the biggest domistic client in Box-Team Vienna who are now sanctioned by another federation that belongs under the EBF.

In May eh? Must be he has to meet the stringent 6-month mandatory defence policy those hard-task masters at the WBE, EBF and GBC (intercontinental wing) enforce. TBA is #1 by the way

I think this basically explains why we see so many dogdy decisions in Germany. The promoter can effectively pick their own Board of Control. If they're not happy with the one that's there they can just move to another one. Lets hope it doesn't catch on in the U.K.

Thought I should update you on developments.

boxrec favourite Zap has a punishing schedule mapped out for the next few months.

After 3 tune-up fights (including one against 6-21 Zsolt Botos) Zap (8-0(8)) will defend his triple crown in May against the ever-dangerous TBA.
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=259022

Meanwhile Rene Mahling (3-0(3)) has also picked up on the triple title bandwagon, fighting for the big three next month (assuming he gets past his unbeaten opponent in a tune up fight)
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=283389

And in an unprecidented move, Denis Simcic (13-0) heads straight for the big time with a bold bid for BOTH the WBE and GBC Intercontinental titles against an opponent with 10 wins!!!
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=175549

btw, i noticed that Leonard Cretu, one of Zap's victims and the co-challenger with Mahling for the big three is "Romanian Junior champion." I know that doesn't exactly make him an olympic gold medallist, but still.
