If you are going to critique a boxer then have a bit more respect.
I think it's generally considered that fans wouldn't be able to stand up to a round of sparring with any fighter they critique, isn't it? In the same way that football fans describe 'awful' footballers.

Don't take it personally FFS. I'm guessing you have some sort of connection to David?
Boxing fans used to have more respect than football fans so I don't like it when the football supporting culture has seeped into boxing post-Hatton. It annoys me when people mock boxers as the sacrifice they make for our entertainment is unlike any other sport. Unless you've fought then you've no idea the bottle it takes to go in and fight and anyone that steps in the ring has my respect(unless they're a quitter).
As for having a connection with Brophy? No, I know him and speak to him when I bump into him but that's it. I've sparred with him and I've sparred with kenny Anderson and they hit as hard as each other in my experience so think folk are mocking his power unfairly and based solely on boxrec stats.

Absolute pointless fight.

Brophy is a good fighter, good fanbase. Why put him in with Groves.

Feel sorry for the lad they've thrown him to the wolves here.

But that's irrelevant.

It's like claiming David Price hasn't got a glass jaw because I wouldn't be able to KO him.

But it's exactly the same thing. Khan gets ripped for having a glass jaw by people who wouldn't be able to KO him. Adonis Stevenson gets criticised for ducking Kovalev by people who wouldn't dare step into the ring with Kov, Broner gets ripped for getting clowned by Maidana by fans.

It's just the way things are.

Brophy would also be criticised if he was offered this 'opportunity' and knocked it back. Groves isnt exactly Floyd Mayweather but a lot of fighters go through a full career without ever being offered a big opportunity like this. Im quite sure that not many outside of Scotland will be aware of Brophy, its a good chance on a big show to make himself a name in the division. If he is conpetitive then more big opportunities could be around the corner for him, if he isnt then its back to the drawing board.

His old stablemate and close friend Ricky Burns took on a more experienced fighter in Alex Arthur early in his career and it didnt hold him back too much.

Brophy lives local to me and although I dont know him I know of him, he seems to 'live the life' as they say. Has a reputation of being quite a freak in terms of fitness and conditioning therefore if he can take what Groves throws at him early on then he may cause a few more problems later on in the fight than people might be expecting.
Am i saying that will happen? No, I cant make a prediction because its such a step up in class from what I have seen him against in the past but I wont be surprised if he makes it interesting.

Feel sorry for him???? He will earn more in one fight than his full career. He will see his future earnings rise massively through and enhanced profile and he gets the fight on a massive show on telly and test himself against one of the best of his generation.

Why on earth would you feel sorry for him??? It's a dream come true for any boxer.

His future earning will only 'rise massively' if he goes in and give a good account of himself. Rebrasse came and gave Groves a tough fight and has got the Smith fight on the back of that and is now fighting Fielding so there's a chance there for Brophy and I hope he takes it. Full respect to the guy for taking the chance. There's too many fighters from up here that like to play it safe or find these type of opportunities hard to come by so fair play to Brophy.

Firstly he's not getting life changing money for this fight.
He's not far away from fighting for a domestic title and he has plenty of good opponents to choose from.
If there was a title on the line it would be different. If Groves gives him a good hiding (which he will) he needs to rebuild and his career takes a step backwards.

How do you know what money he is getting? I'm sure he will make enough to that he could pay a wedding or put a deposit down on a house- that's changing your life.
If he gets a hiding then shit happens. He can go back and take off where he left up.

Why does it seem he does not have a great chin? I think people make too much of this. If I remember rightly he has only been down 3 times and 1 of them was a brutal KO that would have done the same to anybody. When he fought Anderson he was still a boy in boxing terms and physically still developing yet still got up and stopped him. Jack was a flash knockdown in the 1st rd which caught him cold.
The shot that put him down in the Jack fight looked average to me. Especially on a fresh Groves in the first round.
He was boxing well in the 1st round until that shot put him.

1st round, caught cold... he was taking the same shots without much bother later on.

i think GG is a busted flush, yes he won in style but not before having his legs stiffened with the only shot he took from an absolute non puncher, the future for GG is not good, unless he tags someone early in a fight.
