He's a future world champion.
He's still young at the moment and not world level, he needs a nice, slow progression for the next 2-3 years slowly building his way up. His opponents at the moment are fine for the level he's at.

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
As everyone has pointed out he has plenty of talent but lacks power. It is possible that the power may come but it is also possible that he and Tyson will show everybody that you can get to the top in heavyweight boxing without great power. Unfortunately that makes them boring to watch for the casual fan which is why they aren't the big draws Haye and AJ are.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
He tends to lose a lot of blood and puss in his fights but as long as it has a good cutsman to work on his back between rounds he should be ok.

Stop getting so upset and angry about hype. If a fighter can be hyped, there will be hype. It's called promotion. Learn to assess a fighter on their merits, not on the white noise that comes with them.
It seems the reason you think Fury will beat Joshua is in part because you don't like the hype that comes with Joshua. That's not logical.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
The problem about Hughie is the total over-the-top mixed messages put forward by the camp and Mick Hennessy in particular.
One moment he is being billed as the guy who will break Mike Tyson's record as the youngest heavyweight champion in history, the next he us a young kid who needs experience.
For a young guy, he is obviously very good. The fact that he could box for another 6 or 7 years and still be considered a young heavyweight prospect, shows how far he is along.

I don't get Hughie Fury, he seems to be in the Frankie Gavin camp of misplaced expectations.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
i don't think he is that good. his footwork and movement seems to be of a good standard, his power is pretty poor so to beat anyone decent he will need to go the distance. Is his 'man strength' there yet? I remember Lennox having very thin arms when he was younger....Hughie may develop.
My theory....
Put him in with Price - Chisora... in that order. lets see what Hughie has got.

Maybe send him to AJ's nutritionist?rhino222 wrote:Is his 'man strength' there yet? I remember Lennox having very thin arms when he was younger....

if that's what you think, fine, but forget the hype. Hype is normal. For some reason it really seems to affect British boxing fans.Horse wrote:Joshua is a big stiff idiot and Fury will mash him up when they fight.Riddick Blowe wrote:Why?

That's because Americans do hype well, but when we British do it, it just seems to grate - it feels like we are being sold double-glazing very badly.Riddick Blowe wrote:if that's what you think, fine, but forget the hype. Bold statement to make. He's a good young fighter but I've not seen anything special from him yet. Perhaps he'll perform better the better level of opposition. He's got the right people around him to help him progress but I'll need to see a lot more of him before coming to the conclusion that he's a future world champion.tigermoth87 wrote:He's a future world champion.

Hughie Fury is a good prospect quietly going about his business.
It could be that he will be pushed a little quicker than he has been previously as FW need some more 'name' boxers to build shows around.
The Joshua complaints are bizarre, if you don't want to see the fights enough to pay then don't, that's it.

He would have beaten Charles Martin last week so to that extent he is good enough to be world champion now.Stuarty30 wrote:Bold statement to make. Nevertheless for me he shows enough potential to be a genuine world champ, but obviously this is an opinion, it is always impossible to predict how a fighter copes when he moves up a level.
It's the same for Joshua, while he hasn't put a foot wrong and has looked absolutely magnificent so far, who knows how he will cope when he moves up another level or two.
Both seem to have the tools, Hughie lacks the big dig, but who only see what champions are made of when they are hit back, and taken into the deep water of the championship rounds.
Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Martin was an accident of a champion though. You're right about AJ. He did show some grit against Whyte and has done in the Ams but he will come up against someone who'll drag him in deep. As for Fury it's just too early to say if he'll be a force. He hasn't been tested yet. Big Pricey was going to be the man to dethrone Wlad til he ran into Tony the Tiger and Hughie hasn't even fought at the level Price had yet. Plenty of time and he's in good hands so I hope you're right but we need to see more of him.Coco wrote:He would have beaten Charles Martin last week so to that extent he is good enough to be world champion now.Stuarty30 wrote:Bold statement to make. First he was going to beat Mike Tyson's record. Then him and Tyson were going to dominate the division as the new Klitschko's.Riddick Blowe wrote:Why?Horse wrote:Less hype = Less reason to complain.

There's plenty of hype around Hughie - the difference is that his team aren't as good at it. Plus, he's not blasting though people so the public aren't really interested.

So many angry people shaking their fists at the television and getting in a stew because a promotion is a promotion.

Ok here i go cancelling my basic virgin media tv package, staying well away from all Sky prpducts and deleting my twitter & facebook accounts.
Joshua is a manufactured hypetrain that's without a doubt in your face. I'm not losing sleep over it, but it's getting on my nerves. I really can't stomach Hearn.

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Hughie probably turned over a bit too quickly.
21 is so young for a heavyweight. Again his KO power isn't there yet but you'd hope his man strength would come 24-25.
The key to Hughie is matchmaking. You wouldn't fancy him in with a banger as due to his lack of punching power they might walk through him.
I hope they don't jump domestic level with him. Hughie-Whyte could be a big fight for the end of the year if the British title is involved.

Re: Is Hughie Fury that good?
Hughie needs more depthful fights. So far, so good. I think in the next three years, we'll see his name be mentioned among the top tiers internationally. For now, though, I expect more fights with solid journeymen and maybe a few faded ex-names, and the occasional prospect. Call me crazy, but I'd like to see Hughie in a match with Johahn Duaphas. Why? He's big, he's tough, he keeps coming forward, and has some good power. That's the sort of man that Hughie needs to fight and test his mettle against. That's a guy you pack your lunch and dinner for, and have to constantly be working, else you are in trouble. But, that being said Duhapas is one speed and he can be out boxed (and even out slugged). There's enough holes in his game that a guy like Hughie could take advantage of. As a fan, I'd really love to see Hughie fight the Dillian Whyte's and others on the domestic scene, but I don't see it happening. The idea with Hughie is not to become a British title holder, or European title holder, but to become a genuine contender.

Why not just fight him?HEAVYWEIGHT
JOHN MCDERMOTT (Holder) v HUGHIE FURY
Hughie Fury withdrew from the above contest.
Why pull out like all of the others?
