I wish this had happened!
If Jimmy Young had beaten Ossie Ocasio he probably would have gotten a shot at Larry Holmes. I wish he had because this would have forever settled the arguments for worst/most boring fight of all time.

I think that the only one who talked about that fight was Holmes' manager, ant it was somthing more like "If Holmes beat Spinks, what's more left... Marvin Hagler?"... Impossible fight to happen, I thinkKOJOE90 wrote:There was some talk apparently of a Hagler - Holmes fight if Holmes had got passed Spinks. Doubt it would have ever happened but I am glad it didn't.
Yes I think wepner was wheeled out after this. Ill have to see about Spinks, not sure. The mental picture of Wepner literaly Flying out of the ring is a little unsettling.KOJOE90 wrote:I read Wepner injured his back in that fall. Apparently Andre got confused a threw Wepner over the wrong side of the ring, the side without the extra floor padding!!expug wrote:I bet Chuck Wepner wishes he never had his little exhibition with Andre The Giant. I think Andre picked him up over his head and threw him into the 5th row. I dont think Chuck took the fall real well.
Didn't Leon Spinks 'fight' a wrestler on that card as well?

Thanks for that info.Jaclem wrote:..there was never..never ever..any serious consideration of a match between sugar ray robinson and patterson. none. zilch. strictly some flak to get both fighters some unusual publicity. no chance of a match. nada.
I'm glad about that.
When I watched the video of that, I thought the world must have gone crazy in 1959!
How could anybody expect a 39 yr old middleweight to challenge a 24 yr old HW champ; one that could punch pretty hard when he wanted to & was lightning quick with it?
It would have been sad to see.
Thank goodness it was a stunt.
Not everybody agrees with you on that one.DoubleM wrote:I'm glad Hagler-Graham didn't happen in 1987. Graham would have outboxed Hagler convincingly... Prime for prime, Hagler wins, but by 1987 he was slow as smeg, and in turn, his skills diminished as well as his reflexes.

I have to say, I've studied Hagler probably more than anyone else on here. I'm very confident of Graham beating him in '87.KOJOE90 wrote:Not everybody agrees with you on that one.DoubleM wrote:I'm glad Hagler-Graham didn't happen in 1987. Leon also had a match with Jerry Lawler.Decagon wrote:[Leon Spinks actually had a number of professional wrestling matches in the Japanese-based FMW. He won one of their titles before losing it in a cage match to Ohnita. FMW was the promotion that ECW copied, only not so well.
I always thought ECW copied the late 70s to early 80s mid south wrestling.
They were booked by Eddie Gilbert for a time.
