Is Alexander Ustinov a good fight for Luis Ortiz?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

So according to ESPN, both promoters have come to an agreement in principle. This was supposed to happen before Ortiz announced he would fight Thompson. Is this the fight Ortiz needs? Did he prove he can hang with the best when he beat Jennings? His last fight he as the heaviest he has weight since 2011. At the age of 37, what is really needed for him at this stage in his career?

Unfortunately, in Professional Boxing, you don't get fights based on merit.. This was true going back to Harry Wills and is still true.. The politically well connected get the fights they want and the guys who deserve to fight them go begging.. Ortiz was very lucky that John David Jackson agreed to let Bryant Jennings fight him.. I thought JDJ was smarter than that.. However - since Ortiz murdered the iron tough Jennings no other top Heavyweight will give him a nibble. They're going to have to offer somebody an UNREAL amount of money. I'm not sure it's there. Ortiz is 37 and they need to get Fury, Joshua, or Wilder in the ring in rapid fashion or it will be too late to beat these guys.

Any fight vs a recognizable name is a good fight for Ortiz. It is a step down from his last two, but he can say he fought the guy that Fury was afraid to fight. :OhYes:

I'd like to see Ortiz Haye, it would benefit both and I will see the winner as a serious world top contender

Good fight for Ortiz.

He's not far away from a real fight which you'd expect to be WBA champ (fury or Klit).

Ustinov is terrible, no speed, no power, no defense. It's another slot on HBO and his mandatory. Won't be remotely competitive.

Since Andy Ruiz murdered Joe Hanks and destroyed his career, he hasn't been able to get an appropriate opponent to save his life.

Eddie Hearn said.. "Joshua wanted to give Andy Ruiz a shot because he's been avoided. He's undefeated with a really great record. The team debated fighting him instead of Breazeale, and I think Ruiz would put up a much better fight than Breazeale personally. But when we looked at footage and photos of Ruiz he just doesn't look the part. We'd get hammered in the media if we fought this guy the way he looks"

So Ruiz is losing out because of his body type. He's not handsome and has a gross looking body so he's SOL.

Ustinov doesn't look a whole lot handsomer or fitter than Ruiz - and is about 1/3rd as good. So what's his secret???

Ortiz just needs to stay busy and fight whoever they put in front of him. He's a very talented heavy weight who can be competitive with any other fighter in the division.

No.

Ortiz should fight Pulev or Browne after suspension.

No, at Ortiz's age he needs the biggest fights he can get as soon as he can get them. This fight is just wasting more important time in his career, and advancing him very little.

Dillian would probably have problems with Ortiz, they got similar style, Ortiz is technically a little better, Whyte is a little bit more fast, it will be a seriously nice fight. Haye would lose badly against Whyte somehow and Ortiz Haye would be close again since Haye is good in running around like a pussy and Ortiz isn't that fast.

I'll repeat, if they ever fight I will be amazed if Haye would win.

Somehow I expect Haye to know this and will probably look for bums, or very old guys instead of Whyte.

Hayes looking for Joshua asdfjkl unless you think Joshua is a bum..

Obviously too early for most fans to say what Whyte can or can't do. He hasn't had much fights!

Ustinov vs Ortiz I'd like to see.

 Haye is looking for money he doesn't deserve, let Haye first fight Whyte for example, then he can move on after that.

No. Ustinov will be a punching bag for several rounds and then the fight will be stopped.

Hopefully after this we can see Ortiz fight someone worthwhile. Maybe Ortiz/Browne.
