CRAWFORD/POSTOL PPV?!

Post by BAD INTENTIONS »

Seriously.

This is a star-building fight. Why put this fight on PPV?
Who is going to buy this?
Instead of 1M+ people watching the fight on HBO,
80,000 people will see it on PPV.

This is beyond asinine.

June 25 - Thurman/Porter FREE
July 23 - Crawford/Postol PPV

Totally agree. It is highly likely to be a great fight which would also promote boxing in general. This is the best matched, highest level boxing match of the year to date and the geniuses running the business end make the command decision to hide it from the public.

"Asinine" is absolutely accurate.

HBO wouldn't pay for it, they had no choice. I'm glad they got it made.

I am also happy it is happening, and I will no doubt be purchasing it, but it is also a microcosm of why boxing resembles a turd being flushed, going round the bowl and down the drain.

When a potentially great action fight gets hidden away in the land of obscure ppvs, sh!t ain't right. I would like to be able to tell family and friends, etc.,to watch it if they want to see great boxing but they aren't going to buy the ppv.

But you are correct, we should be thankful that it is getting done at all.

No doubt that Boxing is at an all time low in the states by a ridiculously wide margin. I wish HBO was putting this on, but they recognize the plight of the sport and cut their budget. I can't fault them there. Just be glad that HBO refused to let the UFC do their own production or we'd have nothing there.

I am guessing a little higher, like 200K. Half of those will be from Omaha & Lincoln. Hope it does well, because you guys are right, its a great fight.

I like the comparisons made between the free Porter/Thurman fight and the Crawford/Postol PPV event. Clearly it's the difference between a network desperate for one last gasp to grab viewer attention and a mainstay that has been doing their business for over 20 years and will be here long after this PBC is officially dissolved.

The PPV numbers will be a little bit higher than Sugar Shane/Mayorga fight but i'm good with it. We, as fans, have been clamoring for unification fights and we've got a dandy with this one in which i'll gladly fork over the cash. This is it for the PBC though. If this fight can't turn their prospects around then they are done. They basically need a miracle. I'm talking Rocky II type ending where they both get knocked down and one guy gets to his feet before the count. Whatever it is, it needs to grab headlines and airtime on ESPN. Honestly, I don't expect that kind of fight. To me, this fight is going to be ugly as Porter fights always are and there will be no drama and end in a ho hum decision for Thurman.

I can't wait to see the fights that finally get made when the PBC is gone and Haymon's boxers stop thanking him in the same breath as God after fights. He's promised the world to these boxers and he's failing. That has to have an effect.

It's a great fight but it's for the boxing fanatics and trade people.
Crawford hasn't crossed over enough yet to do big numbers on PPV.
The good news for boxing fans is that if they want Crawford on PPV then he's got to have someone of quality or relevance in the opposite corner for the time being.

the undercard is good, the main event is great. ppv is okay fr this one.

most important is now they promote it right, crawford needs to show where he is from, talk, just showcase himself and i hope postol speaks english hahahaha

this is only the beginning, crawford will be a ppv mini player and when later matched against danny garcia or thurman he ll become a ppv big player

Source? Why would they pay for Crawford/Lundy but not Crawford/Postol? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Someone would have to be out of their cotton picking mind to buy this. At least put a Heavyweight Fight on the undercard.

I would buy it if the undercard were good, but I doubt it will be. The first fight they announced (Zurdo vs. some no-hoper) is garbage.

They have a budget in place, Crawford wanted a lot of money and it just didn't fit into their plans. Lundy was a much cheaper fight. They might have done it in the Fall but Crawford and Arum didn't want to sit around.

As for source, probably Rafael. Google it and I'm sure it will pop up.

Yea I see it, looks like HBO's boxing budget has been cut. That sucks.

I also saw the full undercard, good lord does it suck.

Basically, it's do anything to make the fight?
Why would you have to resort to this?

HBO is the home of Crawford and Postol (I think).
They were going to pay for more of their fights eventually, right?

So, why wouldn't they pay for the biggest fight each can make on HBO at 140?

It all doesn't add up, but whatever.

Fights like this and GGG/Lemieux on PPV are ridiculous.
They are simply HBO feelers for PPV potential.
Boxing fans are the only one get played here.

GGG was a feeler, this was outside of what they're willing to pay. Simple as that. The common denominator is that GGG and Crawford both want to be more active than HBO dates will allow. Golovkin draws big numbers now, so he's good. Terrence is just a great fighter with a shallow pool of opponents.

PPV wont pay it either. They will raise exactly 5 cents from this PPV. Even though it is a great fight is not PPV material.

The biggest problem in Boxing is the entitlement of these huge paydays. I'm glad HBO cut their budget and I don't care if Arum loses money. If they do 100k, which is a reasonable buy rate, it will turn a profit.

It should be well known that I'm some kind of communist or something ... so what I'm saying isn't my opinion, or what I think is "right"?

Isn't the real problem here lack of competition?
What if other networks and promoters were allowed to bid?
I think, given the opportunity, Showtime would buy this fight on regular cable.

Back to communism ...
I always cringe when money reductions are called for.
Not because I care about money, but because I know money doesn't go away.
Meaning, if the salaries at the bottom are reduced, it only means the salaries at the top are increasing.
The increasing wealth gap is proof of this, so I hope no one comes in to plead for the 1% ... cough Tanzio

I personally think all of this only leads to failure, but school says something else.

I didn't call for a money reduction. I pointed out that the purses are the biggest problem in the sport.
