Bear in mind that Frank claims be the #1 promoter in the UK (and he is right in terms of power and pull). Frank also claims that it was his skill as a promoter that made Hatton a lot of money. Moving on from this what is the main problem Warren has with Hatton? Lack of loyalty? In that case explain the SN policy of jettisoning fighters who lose two consecutive fights. Loyalty is not a cul-de-sac (unlike this thread). Diminished earning capacity? Simple Frank just needs to build another 16, 000 fan fighter up to make up the shortfall. Or is Frank just pissed that Ricky is now guiding his own career? If so then bear in mind that his career will soon be winding down and he spent a few years pissing his prime away fighting the likes of Steven Smith (no disrespect to him intended) whilst Warren claimed that Witter was not a big enough draw to make a fight with Hatton viable. In which case how did he explain Smith? Hatton could have fought anyone and drew at the MEN. So if we accept that Hatton is in the endgame zone of his career and only has a few prime earning years left and on the other hand Warren could have another decade left shouldn't Frank be pragmatic and say Ricky learned a lot from me and I wish him well?
What is stalking Ricky going to achieve? A court-sanctioned stripping of one of Hatton's titles? A new paper title-holder for Frank? On the other hand maybe the Amir Khan faction is wondering why they entrusted the hottest British sporting property into the hands of a man who is evidently taking his eyes of the ball and acting like some bird who got dumped and can't let go.
Warren and Hatton made a lot of money together. Warren put together some big shows, featuring 70 - 30 fights at the most, that sold on the back of Hatton's name. The shows were so quality filled that Sky jettisoned Warren and kept Hatton leading Warren into making the decision that 60 - 40, fights for the best part, are what keeps fans happy (50 - 50 ideally).
I see in his NOTW column Frank is lauding himself for making some competitive fights this month and last. I've just achieved my work tasks for this part of the day, I'm not about to get an ad celebrating myself for doing my job, Warren shouldn't either.
I like Warren, he seems pretty astute but he should bear in mind that we follow boxing to see the fighters do their thing; promoters making complete cocks of themselves in this way is just an added sideshow.
Very eliquently, written but inaccurate all the same. Bullit points;
1. Hatton sold tickets yes, 16k NO, the undercard sold all the tickets and yes it cannot be denied that Ricky was an attraction that helped their sales. However Calzaghe has sold over 14k at the MEN with the same or similar undercard whereas Hatton sold a measly 7k in Sheffield with a different one. Coincidence, or fact. Hatton never, ever acheceived 14k sales other than for Tszyu. 12k was his maximum against Magee who sold the difference himself.
2. SN do NOT have a policy to get rid of fighters who lose two consecutive fights. They have the option but it is not automatic. Michael Gomez, Takaloo, Danny Williams, Michael Sprott, Ojay Abrahams, Bruce Scott, Bradley Pryce, Neil Sinclair etc etc etc. If you have a car that keeps breaking down are you obliged to keep repairing it or would you like the option to get rid?
3. Sky did not get rid of FW, he got rid of them FACT. It is on record. In fact ask Sky, I am sure they will confirm. Do you think Sky are happy with their current crop, ask them that too. They are not happy and as a result are cutting down on their money and coverage, is that good for the sport?
4. It is Mbaye that is suing the WBA for not upholding his rights. In the same vein as Lewis did (Who I take it you all supported at the time) when Rahman, Bruno and McCall did the same to him. Mbaye has been stepped over by Judah, Maussa and now Hatton despite being # 1 contender for over a year. Is that right? If Tszyu had tried this to Ricky you lot would have been screaming about it so what is the difference, why can't her get his chance and make some money (Is it because, he is French, unattractive, Black, with FW or what?) Tszyu would have avoided Hatton if FW had not put up the cash to entice him to the UK and Hatton would still be fighting for the WBU title and waiting for a court case himself. And what did warren get for his millions in investment? Royaly fucked
by a greedy and disloyal father and son team who have made millions off him without a single penny investment.
5. Hatton selected all his opponents from a shortlist. He vetted every opponent for weeks before deciding and never, ever went for the hardest one on the list. He wanted the easiest fights out there. He did not want any part of Witter and even tried to avoid Dennis Holbaek Petersen! All will be revealed in the court case and your hero will have his bubble burst in public.
