Why. Canelo ran, and Eubank jr wants no part of him.
...and good riddance too, still no reason to fight a welterweight..is not something we would expect of GGG..

GGG had to fight somebody after hard negotiations with Canelo, Jacobs, Saunders, and Eubank went nowhere... Ali fought Leon Spinks who he outweighed by 27 pounds.... Holmes fought Michael Spinks who was fighting 40 pounds lighter... They both LOST!!!!!!

Sugar Ray Robinson fought Welterweight Carmen Basilio for his Middleweight Title... SRR lost too... But somehow with Triple-G the rules are different.

1. Does this fight equal Canelo/Khan ... NO! Brook has a good shot at beating Canelo. Brook isn't damaged goods (yet).
2. Brook didn't seem too bothered by Porter's strength. That means he's probably as strong as a middleweight.

3. BUT ... this is GGG and I don't think Brook is the master boxer people are trying to make him out to be.
He's more of a grinder type. You can't win like that against a bigger, more skilled opponent.

4. You're telling me that it's really this impossible for Haymon and HBO to work together?
Just let there a PBC on HBO so we can have Quillin VS GGG.
After that fight, Haymon wouldn't want to see HBO for another 5 years ...

... but HBO :brick:

Fight just came up out of nowhere. Brook's got balls for taking it, but he's gonna get destroyed.

Nobody at 160 wants it though, Brook is the next best thing before moving up to 168

obviously the selected examples are
to prove a bias. usually fights with
much smaller guys are not appreciated
for a reason.

actually even two of the examples are quite
questionable. SRR was passed his best, not
to speak of ali. means we are left with ageing
holmes against peaking spinks. yes these
things do happen, yet more often than not
it is more like ... canelo-khan.

This is f*cking absurd. What the hell is wrong with this sport? Middleweights can't even deal with this dude and now he's fighting a welter?!

This is dumb. But not surprising.

I am a huge fan of Gennady, but I don't like this fight. If top MWs were not available, Loefler should have at least spent a week trying to talk to Lara's team before picking a WW.

I think people will be surprised when they see GGG and Brook standing side by side at the weigh in or in the ring. There will be very little size difference.

Naturally GGG will be a huge favourite but Brook has a much better chance than Khan did against Canelo. Brook starves himself to get to Welter. He is naturally a light middle or even a middle. Also Brook punches much harder than Khan, is technically superior than Khan and definitely more intelligent. Khan merely has a speed advantage.

Not at all should GGG be treated the same as Canelo, Canelo's team pursued Khan even though every middleweight would fight Canelo while GGG's team have chased Canelo, BJS and got messed about by the Eubank's, they got offered the Brook fight they didn't chase him, also GGG wants to fight 3/4 times a year he cant waste time This is TOTALLY different.

Spin it however you want, but it is still a bit of a cherry pick from team GGG. Brook is still a big welterweight, but not a Jr. Middle or MW. Some talk like it will be no problem fighting at 160 for the first time. Its shocking (not) what people will do for money. Like the Canelo/Khan fight, I hope the cherry pick backfires. It makes no difference who pursued who. Lara is a much more well known name worldwide than Brook. Brook has one win of note, out of 36, and it was controversial. It IS much like the Khan/Canelo fight. Absolutely no career damaging risk involved for Brook.

All that said I will look forward to it happening. DannyMCR: you mentioned Brook is a better fight for GGG than any Jr. Middle or Middle? If he was he wouldn't be cutting weight like he has been. Holy crap that is up there with one of the dumbest things I have heard so far this year.

GGG Punches hard but his predictable positioning and style is a plus for the opposition.

I am unhappy about this choice, but Lara wants GGG not more than Eubanks. He is just looking for publicity. Andrade and Charlos don't want GGG either. I would just prefer that Loefler had made a public effort to get those guys into the ring and only then picked somebody less acceptable.

If someone had a problem with Brook getting the decision over Porter they probably don't know how to score fights well.

Porter landed fornicate all clean punches and was getting outboxed in most rounds.

Don't really get the criticism about GGG's "Pick" to fight Brook. It was obviously a mutual decision. Both fighters agreed to fight. That's usually how it's done.
