Juan Manuel Marquez vs Julio Cesar Chavez @130

Post by gilgamesh »

Tired of seeing the same 'ol goofy threads around here the last few days so I figured I'd put this one out there. The other day this came up in conversation on another forum. It may have been brought up on here before, but if it was I don't recall.

Who do you guys have in this fight and why?

Marquez by surprisingly wide decision in a wicked action fight. I like Morales, MAB, Floyd and Pac over JCC too. Floyd very easily. Chavez was better at 35 & 40. Not sure if it was more experience or cutting less weight, but he's pretty overrated at 130.

Edit: I should say Marquez would deserve a clear decision, probably 8-4 Marquez and Chavez wins a SD.

Yeah that's about the way I'd see it too. I figure Chavez would take the first few rounds, but Marquez would start timing him with counter punch after counter punch by the 3rd round and start boxing his ears off. Chavez is a tough S.O.B. that'll keep on coming so he'd take some more rounds in there, and could possibly drop Marquez at some point, but I'd definitely favor Marquez to do the better work overall as well.

You think the fight plays out any different at 135?

No, I like Marquez at any weight. I never saw Chavez compete at that level, he beat a ton of really good fighters to cement his ATG status; but he's more McCallum than Duran to me.

Absolute classic, I don't think the weight changes things. I would leak more manlove-juice in this fight than I can imagine, I love both but think the style clash suits Marquez.

Yeah, I love me some Chavez but I cant argue, hes got nothing to compare with beating Pacquiao's ass three times

Again I think pacquiaos style is difficult for JCC.

Pac W12 I would think. Faster movement, and he'd get off first on Chavez in most exchanges and get out of the way of Chavez's attack. Chavez would obviously land his share of shots, but I think Pac would've beaten him pretty comfortably.

Yup pacs mobility means jcc can't really pin him down to unload and that left hand finds a home over and over

Juan Manuel Marquez was a great boxer, but, he is not in the great Julio Cesar Chavez' class.

Are you a Chavez hater or just a plain berk? Chavez is hands down the GOAT Mexican fighter and he dismantles Marquez at any weight.
