Unless you're going, or watching it at the pub, no normal boxing fan can begrudge 20 quid to see this, unless they're flat broke or a real tight arsed scrub.

This is what PPV is all about - and anyone who thinks otherwise - that it is going to go away - is a living on a different plane of reality to everyone else.

Of course crap like Tony effing Bellew v some schmuck on PPV deserves the scorn it rightly receives, but a Brit world welterweight champ, stepping up and taking on the worlds most feared fighter in a battle of undefeated champions ...that is a 100% PPV worthy fight - if only they were all like that.

im not buying it. bare minimum requirement, it must be a competitive bout. i don't buy ppv on the basis of the size of the event alone.

But it might be, the one thing you always hear said about welterweight Kel is "big at the weight", and GG is not a big middle....so......stranger things have happened.

Of course there is always the chance of a quick blast out, but that is true of any big fight

And just about the best judge in boxing Graham Houston, thinks it could be a real fight.

it might be, and if it is, ill have been wrong because everything points to a mismatch for me. kells fought one world class fight, and i had him the loser in that. kell might be big for a welter, but he's still not used to taking middleweight shots. its a brave move from brook, a big event for british boxing, but from a purely matchup pov, i see it as a poor fight which will end in the first quarter. prerequisite for me shelling out for a ppv is a matchup that is 60-40 at worst. this isn't that, and i don't think the few ponderables surrounding the british fighter are compelling enough to sway me

I think there is a danger of people swallowing the Sky hype. I'll buy it cos I love boxing and don't want to miss it just by being a tight arse.

But let's not forget, this is essentially a daft fight, I don't care if Kell eats 500 steaks a day, at the end of the day he made his name at welter, he hits fairly hard at welter but doesn't flatten people and now we're expecting him to jump up 2 weights and face someone who outright flattens people at his weight.

My first reaction when I saw this fight made was, 'that's ridiculous' and disappointment that the Eubank Jnr fight had fallen through as I thought he'd put up a really good scrap. That is still my reaction now, no amount of Sky hype can change what it is. These are not particularly the fights I want to see made, people going up and down 2 weights to make 'name fights' for the casuals.

I'll eat humble pie if Kell wins, but I don't think he's going to get anywhere near that.

Not sure how much I can swallow of McRory/Froch/Nelson etc singing from the Sky hymn sheet about might-be's such as 'Kell's big for a welter', 'who has Golovkin really fought', 'Golovkin isn't massive for his weight' etc etc. I'll probably mute them and just watch the fights.

Yeah I always hit mute button when Sky wheel out their trusty team of ex boxing lackeys, to boringly drone on with their scripted waffle. Depressing to hear, sky's boxing production crew are clearly a bunch of heavy arsed dullards.

TV Sound goes off and music goes on, or five live, until I see the boxers getting ready to leave dressing rooms.

To be fair ggg v brook is just as terrible a fight as canelo v smith. Both hard to get excited about, just treading water fights for the favourites. Not really getting excited just because both are brits, that's a mugs game

I think GGG vs Brook is a good bit more interesting than Canelo vs Smith, but neither are much to get excited about I don't figure. I always look forward to GGG's fights. I never want to see Canelo again if he doesn't fight GGG.

Here's my PPV analogy.

You decide you might want to buy a new car. You go to the nearest showroom in your old car and a car park attendant approaches and takes a fiver off you. ( Tv licence). You approach the door of the showroom and the door attendant takes another fiver off you to get inside( Sky subscription). You see a car you like, but before a salesman will speak to you, he wants £16.99( PPV). Would anyone accept this.
It's not about the money, it's the principal.
I can just imagine the promoter and the Head of Sky sports having lunch in the Dorchester Hotel, discussing the next PPV event over expensive wine, and having a good laugh about how they'll sell the event to the mugs. For example , an unlucky welterweight whose not had the best of luck getting the one big fight of his career, against the hardest hitting middleweight since Hagler. Less than 6 minutes of action for £16.99.

I think it says a lot about the British psyche of the working class, that getting stuck in is the thing to be admired the most. That's why our footy players can't cut it at the top level.....too much emphasis on guts and not enough on real ability. Brook is being just as moronic as khan, it's not being clever it's being really stupid.
So brook gets kod by ggg then takes solace in the fact he accepted the fight. That's not boxing, it's just volunteering to be a fox just before the hunt starts.
Will it be called out in the press? No chance.

What baffles me is how a sport, which is ranked around 9th or 10th when taking into account viewing figures solely of the sport, is the only one that Sky can successfully charge a ppv fee for.

Says a lot about the die hard fans, and also the amount of "casual" fans who dip in and out when big fights come along.

Crolla Perez did 12th views on sky. Enter casuals for David Haye Mark Di Mori... 3 million! !

I think Smiths got a better chance of winning his fight than Brook. ( Though I think Smith is getting a brutal beat down)

I do too because he's facing a lesser fighter than Brook is.

If you are watching Man U v Liverpool live in the premiership on tv now without the use of Kodi you ARE paying for it and have been for god knows how many years it's just a monthly agreement, but I think you are right and will be asked to pay on top of your subscription for the top teams in the future and that's why I no longer have no interest whatsoever in footy .
