So now, after it is finally confirmed and contracts signed, would be a great time to hold a press conference where both boxers show up to promote the fight.

Signed,
European Boxrec contingent.
It looks like Ward was forced to sign by HBO and his promoter. They are forgetting that his knee tends to swell though
Seriously speaking, I think Ward got some boost of confidence from favorable betting odds. I think there is now about 70% chance that he will in fact get into the ring with Kova. Can't wait
to see the punishment.

I imagine one or more of the affected will go full retard (it's historically unavoidable) but as the result has time to marinate and butts unhurt, people will give credit where it's due.
What if Ward loses? Will some people go insane or become suicidal?
That possibility exists as well, there is some dangerous genetic material floating around out there. If Ward gets knocked out, which is the only way he would lose, Kovalev cements his case as one of the best in the world by beating his first great opponent (Hopkins the name doesn't equal Hopkins the great, he's damn near drawing social security). If Ward wins, we get another example of technique and intelligence out performing physical attributes. The basis of boxing, skills. The fans can't lose in this fight. So yeah I'm sure at least one or two people go nuts, it's bound to happen.

He'll be trying to head butt Kovalev.
I just hope there's an honest referee working. He should have been disqualified against Kessler.

If he headbutts Kovalev the way he did Kessler he'll get away with it. That's expertly done "Accidental headbutting" right there.

I booked hotel and flights over a month ago for that weekend, question now is what kind of tickets will be available.
If they are offering the general public all the crappy tickets in the bleachers and the corporations, bots and whoever else snap up all the decent others I'm off to a comedy club that night.
It's up to them on how the ticket allocation goes down.
We'll find out on Friday if I'm attending but I'll be in Vegas that weekend regardless.
Ward is gonna outsmart and outclass Sergey. Folks will find away to blame Ward for the lack of action. Kovalev will be just as much to blame because he will not be as aggressive and his punch output will be neutralized imo

Folks will a way to blame Ward for the lack of action? Probably because if there is indeed a lack of action it'll be 100% Ward's doing. Kovalev's never been in a boring fight. If he's in a boring fight against Ward it can only be because Ward is causing the lack of action.

Yea like Floyd vs Manny Pacquiao. Folks blamed Floyd but Floyd fought the exact same way he always does. It was Pacquiao who altered his punch out put. Same will happen Ward vs Kovalev imo

How should Kovalev be rated?
Tough one, kovalov got some good skills but his game is built around his power and that never ends well once they are in with a bit of quality, someone like kov will always struggle with angles and ward is excellent at creating them, saying that he's still the no 1 guy at LH so what he does he's done well enough to see off the challengers so far but think he's generally rated too high in p4p lists

Pacquiao vs Mayweather was fairly dull, but I've always found Ward more boring than Floyd. Neither of them are the most exciting fighters, and most of their fights in their career are boring. I think Kovalev will be bringing it I don't see Ward laying the kinda punches on Kovalev that will make him stop throwing big shots.
Freedom2013 wrote:Why would anyone root for a boring boxer like Andre Ward who feels he needs to resort to illegal tactics to win?
Kovalev is much better for the sport.
People tend to root for one of their own, and it is normal. Besides, Kovalev is from the "evil empire". Remember how people were hounding Yulia Efimova (who lived and trained in the U.S.) in Rio.

He has never needed or acted like he needed them to win, that's the dumbest damn thing said yet. 20 years of fighting at the top level you want to create the idea all those hundreds of wins came from illegal tactics, that's pathetic. You have got to face the fact Kessler got bent over and serviced every minute of their fight, it happened. He was outfought every step of the way... I like how bika gets shown as an example against Ward when bika is 10x more dirty in every fight he's in, lil hypocritical don't you think?
I could find many good reasons to like Andre Ward.
Solid all round boxer, decent defence decent chin and decent power, most of the time if all is equal he'll be a tough nut to crack.
He appears clean physically, mentally every time I've seen him talk at length he strikes me as good people.
Ward is clever predictable and surprisingly accurate when you least expect it, much like Kovalev he generally maintains roughly the same pace throughout and can sustain it.
Andre has a pedigree and looking at some of the names he's beaten and when is impressive.
Is he dirty ? I don't think so.
If you box clean with him he'll box clean with you, if it's all above board I'm sure he'll be willing to kick it off right in the centre of the ring when appropriate.

Even if he was the cleanest boxer, he is still one of the most boring ones. Wards and Rigos are killing the sport.
