As for boxing, so much needs changing, I hardly know where to begin. One thing I would do is modernize the weight classes and set them up on a logical basis with percentage increments from one to the other. And boxing is so corrupt. The judge system obviously isn't working. I'm not sure how to fix that. You might let the referee have one vote like he used to, but what would that fix? Refs are almost as bad as the judges. One guy said make the rules uniform all over and that is true. Besides uniform rules boxing needs an international supervising organization to oversee it and get rid of all these ridiculous alphabet things. Medical coverage for boxers is another thing that is badly needed.

They can review the tape to determine knockdowns and find out if cuts were caused by a punch or butt. That's such an easy one that i can't understand why they just don't do it everywhere already.

As for judging for big fights, I'd increase to 5 judges and have them all off site viewing the fight in a room with no sound on. All 5 judges get the same angle of the fight and the action. They won't be affected by the crowd because there's no sound. They won't be affected by the announcers normally a few seats away from them at ringside. Lastly, i'd make each accountable for their scorecard and make them take interviews after the fight to explain what they saw and why. Why are the judges now in witness protection after fights? Why not make them accountable?

That boxing had a proper international structure, and was no longer so much the wild west. This would require such a huge shakeup, that I am not sure it will ever happen.

The biggest problem in our sport is the talent level. It's true. So I wish each medalist in the Olympics or World Amateur Championships would receive a bonus to go professional.

How can this be done? Put in a luxury tax of PPV's where fighters make over 3 million, and build funds for the top amateurs to turn professional regardless of who promotes them.


Gold = 100k signing bonus. 50% up front, the rest to be paid over the course of fighters first 10 fights.

Instant replay is a good idea but how would the ref get to watch it in the midst of a fight when he needs to make instant calls? I like your 5 off site judges idea too, and not putting them into ha ha witness protection afterwards. Who are those judges and referees anyway? How are they picked? Who do they know? Who do they work for? The more I try to think of ways to straighten out boxing the more hopeless it seems.

this already happens! you think medallists don't get signing bonus? Promoters are usually falling over themselves to sign Olympic medallists.

I'd appoint two referee's to each fight, one inside the ring and one outside. The ref outside has access to instant replay and he or she has the ability to overrule the ref inside the ring. But any reversals have to be determined within the minute between the rounds. If a decision to reverse isn't made by the time the bell sounds for the next round then the call stands. simple as that.

Completely agree with you. I think that these upgrades to boxing couldn't be made without first having a reliable central authority commission to oversee the sport. In the USA, Senator John McCain tried to pass a bill through congress to regulate the sport of Boxing back in 2012 but it failed.

I think that it's going to take something big like multiple deaths in the ring on live TV or for someone to uncover the corruption in Boxing that gains worldwide attention before we ever get any closer to a central authority overseeing the sport.

I think all hope is lost for boxing to be fair.

Unless promoters lose interest in promoting the sport, they are not going to cede power to any overruling central commission. The only way that happens if is the sports dies back to such a level that no new promoters come forward, this is possible, but then it would be very hard to revive interest in the sport.

The problem with boxing is as ever, it's basically owned by promoters, and run by petty organisations who serve their own interests, the networks make money showing it and help bankroll it with their money, and the casinos profit from staging events there.

It's just lots of sets of hands dipping into the pot.
