Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Kell Brook - September 10th 2016
As much as i rate Brook and as much as i think there's a slight chance he could outbox Golovkin to eek out a hometown decision,my brain tells me its too tall an order for Kell,he's an elite Welterweight and arguably the best 147 fighter in the world but even though he's big for a WW,stepping up to fight one of the greatest fighters on the planet and maybe one of the greatest MWs of all time is just too much of an ask despite GGG being a smaller 160 fighter
I thought Brook lost by a point to Porter,he was guilty of holding and spoiling too much for me and Shawn was the one trying to fight, still judging by most peoples cards the right man won,Porter is a great fighter but his marauding style is pretty predicatable and it was easy for Brook to tie him up,Golovkin is a lot more clever than that and wont allow the same to happen to him,i imagine Gennady will choose to do most of his boxing on the outside anyway, where it will be more dangerous for Kell to be on the end of his heavy shots,Brook showed excellent powers of recovery when wobbled by Senchenko but the fact id he was wobbled and Golovkin is a totally different animal to Senchenko and a bigger guy to boot
I still think Brook is the best fighter Golovkin has been in with, even as a blown up welter, certainly the most skilled,i just cant see him having much success if im honest,i'll be rooting for him though but fear GGG will hurt him early and finish it

Pretry much agree with all that mate. Only I had Brook just shading Porter.handsofstone wrote:As much as i rate Brook and as much as i think there's a slight chance he could outbox Golovkin to eek out a hometown decision,my brain tells me its too tall an order for Kell,he's an elite Welterweight and arguably the best 147 fighter in the world but even though he's big for a WW,stepping up to fight one of the greatest fighters on the planet and maybe one of the greatest MWs of all time is just too much of an ask despite GGG being a smaller 160 fighter

When you work through the 34 year old's record, and each one of his title fights, the complete absence of A-class fighters is startling. He's never boxed one. It's all second- and third-rate fighters, one after another. It baffles me that a tested fighter like Canelo didn't take his chance with GGG.handsofstone wrote:I still think Brook is the best fighter Golovkin has been in with, even as a blown up welter, certainly the most skilled,i just cant see him having much success if im honest,i'll be rooting for him though but fear GGG will hurt him early and finish it
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Kell Brook - September 10th 2016
Listening to Ingles last interviews it is clear what Brooks plan is. Ingle claims Brook will be a stone, 14 pounds heavier then usual. That is a massive increase. If it is true, I think paradoxically it will be Kell that weighs heavier then Golovkin on the fight night.
They must have come to conclusion that Brook needs power to deter GGG opening up on him. I think they are hoping that Golovkin will feel the power and will make it a boxing match rather then a slugfest, much like he did against Lemieux. Except that they hope to outbox him. I personally think it is a perfect plan, he cant just hope to run and get away with it against GGG.
Big question is will Brook be able to outbox GGG using his movement, speed and technique. Will he at all have a speed advantage with all that extra weight? Brook has beautiful jab but GGG has a jab and left hook that in combination with his longer reach should be enough to neutralize Brook at distance. Who will have a better footwork is another question.
I think maximum Brook can hope for is to win early rounds if he can outbox GGG. That for me would be an accomplishment in itself, since we have not seen GGG outboxed so far. But even if he does that he will find it very hard going late. Golovkins relentless pressure, with hurtful body and head attacks will be impossible to withstand in my opinion. Much like Murray and Ouma he will ultimately succumb.

Yeah theres no doubting Golovkin's resume lacks any great fighters,he has tried though,Alvarez blatantly ducked him, gave up the belt rather than fight him,Saunders refused a career best payday to fight him and started bumping his gums when Gennady had another opponent announced, thats where i give Lemieux credit,he could've avoided GGG too and made a few bob defending his title against other opposition which TBF he would have a great chance of beating most of the other leading MWs but David dared to be the best soTuan_Jim wrote:When you work through the 34 year old's record, and each one of his title fights, the complete absence of A-class fighters is startling. Cant believe Brook's been a pro 12 years and only has Porter as a great win on his record, its a shame because i reckon Kell has the abilty to be one of the greatest boxers ever to come out of this country but his careers been at a snails pace, still better late than never i suppose

Exactly. It's all very well for armchair fans to criticise Golovkin's resume, but it's clear that his fellow professionals rate him extremely highly, such is their eagerness to avoid any contact with him whatsoever.handsofstone wrote:Yeah theres no doubting Golovkin's resume lacks any great fighters,he has tried though,Alvarez blatantly ducked him, gave up the belt rather than fight him,Saunders refused a career best payday to fight him and started bumping his gums when Gennady had another opponent announced, thats where i give Lemieux credit,he could've avoided GGG too and made a few bob defending his title against other opposition which TBF he would have a great chance of beating most of the other leading MWs but David dared to be the best soTuan_Jim wrote:When you work through the 34 year old's record, and each one of his title fights, the complete absence of A-class fighters is startling. The odds on G are amazing. Bout 1.4 for KO on xchange. That calls for remortgaging. I can only assume fast eddies hype of Brook as "1 welter in world" is pumping these prices. David Lemiuex was longer odds than Brook.

Despite voting for GGG stoppage victory on the poll, I dreamt last night that Brook lasted the distance although was dropped in the final round and lost a wide decision. Is my subconscious falling for the hype?

Hoping to get across to Covent Garden to see the GGG workout but I think it's at about 2pm which is a bit annoying.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Kell Brook - September 10th 2016
GGG has proven that if he doesn't respect someone's power he is happy to take one to land one and walks right through them.
Geale is the clearest example of this.
He respected Lemiuex's power and used his jab to put on a boxing clinic.
Brook has to sit on his punches from the opening bell and try to deter GGG from basically walking through him (Frampton executed a similar gameplan against LSC but the goal was to lower the workrate).
I see GGG figuring him out for 2-3 rounds by using his jab then deciding to walk through him and finishing Brook around 5-6 rounds.
The truth of the matter is GGG is a once in a lifetime talent at middleweight. It's going to take someone of world class proportions to beat him. At the moment the only one I give a chance to is Canelo and even that's slim.

Can't bloody wait to be there on Saturday night! I can't really afford the price I've paid for the tickets but this may be the only time he fights in the UK.

Kel looked sharp, don't have the GGG superstar aura for sure, but as he was finishing up on the pads the crown started cheering cmon Kel and he finished with a flourish and leapt onto corner post and screamed out at the crowd throwing punches and snarling, he's definitely up for this
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Kell Brook - September 10th 2016
His problem will be keeping GGG off him. Brook just doesn't punch hard enough to get GGG's respect in my view. He was a decent puncher at welterweight but not murderous and I can't see how he will be able to put a dent in a guy who has never once been floored and has never even looked in trouble as far as I am aware.MightyWarrior wrote:Kel looked sharp, don't have the GGG superstar aura for sure, but as he was finishing up on the pads the crown started cheering cmon Kel and he finished with a flourish and leapt onto corner post and screamed out at the crowd throwing punches and snarling, he's definitely up for this
In addition, I think GGG is also the superior technical boxer. The only advantage Brook has is one of speed but GGG cuts the ring off so well that I think that will be quickly neutralised. Brook has an absolute mountain to climb here.
