And they didn't earn too much in previous years also.

• Non-big name fighters still have jobs, such as (until recently) a world champion like Ricky Burns worked at a sports shopbigman1968 wrote:How boxers make a living???
Stiverne and Jennings have earned over/close to a million in their careers , Malik Scott surely has had some good pay days himself.bigman1968 wrote:We are in Sept 2016

In Japan only the top guys can make a living from boxing alone.
Everyone else has day jobs.
Those who I listed are world top HW!StrapMeUp wrote:Stiverne and Jennings have earned over/close to a million in their careers , Malik Scott surely has had some good pay days himself.bigman1968 wrote:We are in Sept 2016

I know the California athletic commission offered some sort retirement plan if you fight in California 10 times not sure what it is but the commission said I need to fight there 3 more times to get itcaldo2025 wrote:Another reason why there should one governing Boxing Commission to oversea the sport. They tried it in the UK with the professional boxers association, from what I recall, nobody wanted to sign up to it.caldo2025 wrote:Another reason why there should one governing Boxing Commission to oversea the sport. boxers would have even less money than they have now if there was just one org, remember its only the fans that benefit from having one org, the boxers have never had it so good, more titles and orgs means that the sport survivescaldo2025 wrote:Another reason why there should one governing Boxing Commission to oversea the sport. The Mago situation is disgusting, the blokes a virtual cabbage stuck in America in a dingy flat with a wife and 3 kids, I would of expected the klitchkos to help out seeing as it was their promotion and just to show a bit of solidarityx2x wrote:caldo2025 wrote:Another reason why there should one governing Boxing Commission to oversea the sport. And especially medical coverage. Severely injured boxers, even a headliner like Mago Abdusalamov, have to live on charity!
The entire sport would benefit though, and the money flowing into it would increase if there was a central authority. In the end, everybody would be better off.littlepug wrote:boxers would have even less money than they have now if there was just one org, remember its only the fans that benefit from having one org, the boxers have never had it so good, more titles and orgs means that the sport survivescaldo2025 wrote:Another reason why there should one governing Boxing Commission to oversea the sport. just cant see it mate, after all didn't work first time round did it ? the sport been operating with multiple belts far longer than without and logistically it would be a nightmare to sort, boxing wouldn't be as global as it is without the extra belts and weight divisions IMO although it is a nice ideajamesmcdonnell wrote:The entire sport would benefit though, and the money flowing into it would increase if there was a central authority. Well, football is pretty global, and it has a single organisation.littlepug wrote:just cant see it mate, after all didn't work first time round did it ? the sport been operating with multiple belts far longer than without and logistically it would be a nightmare to sort, boxing wouldn't be as global as it is without the extra belts and weight divisions IMO although it is a nice ideajamesmcdonnell wrote:The entire sport would benefit though, and the money flowing into it would increase if there was a central authority. I know but the amount of world title fights on tv would drop dramatically and depending on which country your from you could be without a flag bearer for years, just meant that boxing soon cottoned on that titles meant money and what was once THE world title became A world titlejamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, football is pretty global, and it has a single organisation.littlepug wrote:just cant see it mate, after all didn't work first time round did it ? the sport been operating with multiple belts far longer than without and logistically it would be a nightmare to sort, boxing wouldn't be as global as it is without the extra belts and weight divisions IMO although it is a nice ideajamesmcdonnell wrote:

What do you mean first time around? There's never been an overriding organisation running boxing.
on reflection I suppose the domestic scene and a boxers climb up the world rankings could be made into bigger eventslittlepug wrote:I know but the amount of world title fights on tv would drop dramatically and depending on which country your from you could be without a flag bearer for years, just meant that boxing soon cottoned on that titles meant money and what was once THE world title became A world titlejamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, football is pretty global, and it has a single organisation.littlepug wrote: just cant see it mate, after all didn't work first time round did it ? the sport been operating with multiple belts far longer than without and logistically it would be a nightmare to sort, boxing wouldn't be as global as it is without the extra belts and weight divisions IMO although it is a nice idea

Yes, we wouldn't have the situation we have now, where it's only the upper echelons or most hyped fighters who make a decent living.littlepug wrote:on reflection I suppose the domestic scene and a boxers climb up the world rankings could be made into bigger eventslittlepug wrote:I know but the amount of world title fights on tv would drop dramatically and depending on which country your from you could be without a flag bearer for years, just meant that boxing soon cottoned on that titles meant money and what was once THE world title became A world titlejamesmcdonnell wrote:

think your biggest problem would be making sure the one sole org wouldnt be broken up again, greed has always steered this boxing ship but heres to hopingjamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, we wouldn't have the situation we have now, where it's only the upper echelons or most hyped fighters who make a decent living.littlepug wrote:on reflection I suppose the domestic scene and a boxers climb up the world rankings could be made into bigger eventslittlepug wrote: I know but the amount of world title fights on tv would drop dramatically and depending on which country your from you could be without a flag bearer for years, just meant that boxing soon cottoned on that titles meant money and what was once THE world title became A world title
Domestic title fights used to be HUGE events in the UK, drawing massive crowds, and getting wall to wall newspaper coverage. The more diluted the titles, the less meaningful it becomes to be a champion, and a lot of the belt holders are making chickenfeed relatively speaking. Prestige carries far more money.
Look at golf, even minor players are millionnaires, because the sport is so huge worldwide, with absolutely humungous sponsorship.
