Financially, he could retire. He and his family are set for life. He wants to be remembered as a Mexican great comparable to Chavez, but behaves like a chicken. If he doesn't fight Golovkin next year, his legacy is screwed.
He has a better resume than Golovkin now.
So what ? He still needs Golovkin now, as Golovkin perceived as a better fighter.

You disagree that GGG is generally considered the better fighter?

If Canelo beat Golovkin, he'd have a better win than Chavez ever had.

No. I'm just disagreeing that Canelo necessarily needs Golovkin. He could still go about his career making multi million dollar paydays without ever fighting Golovkin. Golovkin on the other hand does need Canelo from a financial perspective, hence why his team are chasing the fight so hard despite Canelo having relinquished his middleweight belt and gone back down to 154.

None of them need each other from financial prospective, as they are both already rich people and can keep earning millions several times a year.

Canelo needs Golovkin to correct damage to his legacy he caused by dropping the belt and ducking.

Golovkin wouldn't mind to get Canelo on his resume, but he could also complete unification and move up to get belts at 168.

Golovkin is just 4 wins away from Hopkins's middle defenses record.

Possibly all by KO, which would pulverize Gomez' old record of 17 consecutive defenses by KO.

What in Canelo's "legacy" would remotely compare to this?

Getting schooled by 36 year old PBF?

Bullshit is never true. No need to recite the same stuff from last week. I already explained it to you.

Yeah so I guess Loeffler didn't say this within the last week ....

Moving forward, in terms of Golovkin's career, the WBA has ordered him to make a mandatory defense against Daniel Jacobs next. "The plan is to fight Danny Jacobs and if the 'Canelo' fight comes up, that would trump any fight in boxing,"

http://www.BS.com/golovkins-pr ... oy--108899

They're not chasing the Canelo at all. Just a figment of my imagination. I guess that quote doesn't exist.

Loeffler also didn't say this earlier in the year ....

Loeffler responded, “We will stay in contact and, again, the priority is to try and make the fight in the next fight. I don’t think it changes the value or the significance of the match-up at all. Canelo is still the most marketable fighter in boxing

Of course they want the fight, but is keeping in touch really chasing the fight 'so hard'?

Yeah but I thought Golovkin was all about accumulating all the belts at 160. Canelo no longer holds any of the 4 main belts at 160 so why are they still pursuing him if it's about him having all the belts at middleweight?

No it isn't. Only in lefty's world. He's is looking to fight Jacobs. Didn't even mention him after the fight. It's almost as big a joke as that 'offer'.

It's only significant in blog form. Answering questions in a blog is desperately chasing someone.

He just needs one more belt, and its owner is (or at least was) hiding. He needs other opponents to fight 3 times a year.
